West Ham - Swansea's a tricky one

I cant decide what I want here ... a win for Wham would keep Swansea 3 points away from us with 2 games in hand.
A Draw would keep both in trouble but means Swansea are edging closer.

A Swansea win would be the worst option but there is a part of me that would find it hilarious to see Whams free-fall extended.

As funny as it might be, I can't see West Ham going down. We need Swansea to collapse - starting today.

Not going to break my heart if West Ham win. That would leave Swansea 3pts behind us - in reality 4 - with just 6 games left to play and us with 8. Even if we somehow only managed 3pts till the end of the season they would still need more than 2 wins to finish above us. Lose today and the odds are stacked against them getting anywhere near us.

In saying that I fully expect them to turn West Ham over today.

Seeing Swansea lose will please me. If we can keep that 3 / 4 point gap then we should be ok.

If Swansea and Hull lose today, which I think they both will, we will still have a small gap before our "free swing" on Monday.

The Garth Crooks death wish on the BBC:

Is the third relegation spot between Hull and Swansea? Garth is saying yes:

"I would say that. I've relegated Sunderland. Middlesbrough don't have the goals to pull them out of this situation so they're doomed. The third place is between Hull and Swansea. Crystal Palace have too much quality."

If Swansea fail to win that's 5 games without victory having played the likes of Boro, Hull, West Ham and Burnley. Confidence will be at a low at the worst possible time. Going to need a massive change in fortunes to suddenly start winning when 5 of their next 6 games are against top half sides.

Swansea won't get more than 9 points from their remaining games (and probably less). That would put them on 37 and mean we'd need a minimum of 6 points from our 8 remaining games given our superior goal difference.

We need only finish 17th. A loss for Swansea is worth almost as much as a win for us.

Personally I think I would like to see Boro win. I cannot see Boro getting enough points thereafter and still very likely to go down....and if Boro were to win it would keep Burnley in catching distance for us. A draw would take Burnley a point further away from us.

That said. The really big game is West Ham holding on against Swansea

What are tonight's lottery numbers please.

I get that you're being facetious but its not unreasonable to predict Swansea's likely points total after todays game. Should they lose to West Ham they won't have won in 5 games, will have an average of 0.875 points/game and have yet to play Everton and Man Utd. They have the worst defence in the league and have proven incapbale of hanging on to any leads. They're unlikely to start getting 1.5 points/game which means winning 50% of their last 6 games, when they've won just 25% of their games up to now, in order to reach 37 points.

If Burnley are safe when we pay them later this month it might be easier to beat a team with nothing to play for.

Sure, and perhaps they'll do what they haven't done thus far and win 3 of those games. That puts them on 37 points. But have you noticed how teams with little to play for occasionally 'play up' to their opposition? A couple of those teams may react to Swansea's desperation and put in a performance.

I know right. Whilst also simultaneously giving us the shit run in to end all shit run ins. Hopefully they have too much to do now, whilst us getting the 4 wins including the one at 'play on till you score' Chelsea has given us a realistic shot at sticking the finger to him and his paymasters.
