Not sure if this has been posted before but apparently he's put in a transfer request.
Has anyone seen him play? Is he worth the 1.5 million we'd need to find?

He'd be worth 1.5 million but Bristol rovers will try for probably double that

Quite right James, my Rovers supporting colleague confirms that they want 3 million at least.
He also doesn't understand why he's asked for a transfer given that Rovers have always made it clear that if they get a serious bid for him that matches their valuation they will let him go.

Your Rovers supporting colleague hasn't taken into account that Rovers probably over-value him, so an offer that matches their valuation probably won't materialise.
Leicester are paying upto 1.5 million for Benjamin. Roberts, in my view, is a better player at present, but has less potential. I think they will be lucky to get 2 million - but you never know which First Division club might feel they need to boost their goals for column. I've heard rumours that Akinbiyi might be leaving Wolves. If so, then maybe Wolves would be interested in Roberts?

I agree that he's over-priced at 3 million Edmundo but I don't see how asking for a transfer makes any difference?
Wolves keep turning down Brum's bids for Akinbiye but you're right again - they'll definitely be straight into the market if he does move on because they've got nothing else up front.
4.5 million for Akinbiye though! Are you sure Mr. Francis?

Nigerian international he may be, but he's not even as good as Amokachi. I'd love to see Francis part with 4.5 for him and then still not get out of the division. That'd make all of those Monday nights that he's managed to ruin for me all the more worthwhile. http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

I think that getting the right partner for Clinton is probably the most important signing we have to make. Strikers are always going to be the most expensive players to buy so maybe a 2m bid plus McKenzie for Roberts (as mentioned on another thread) would be an idea.I know that Steve is rightly being very cautious with the money available but I think that he may have to shell out a large portion of that money to get someone worthwhile upfront. I still think, much to everyone elses annoyance, that Gallen would be a good signing as we can get him for nothing

Forest have already put in a bid for him so i fear we may be too late anyway.

Does anyone know how much adebola is going for? I know his move to Spain went tits up and he wants to leave birmingham
Eagle

The thing is with Adebola is that he failed his medical which prevented him moving to Las Palmas so what will be differnet for him to pass his medical at Palace if Coppell did go for him

Was it a long term thing or something he'll get over?

Don't know James, i think it was something wrong with his knee or ankle or something like that

Maybe he can keep all our left sided midfielders company then http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

Yes.
With the emphasis on the half.

Having just read Dominic's match report I'd say a striker who can find the back of the net has got to be the number one requirement.
James Verrinder
17-07-2000, 08:33 PM
But would that be a good half or a bad half?
Seriously though, all the other potential targets are slipping away like Benjamin and perhaps Roberts. as a free transfer on mediocre wages, I think he'd be a pretty useful addition to have around.

We will need to sign 2 strikers as we proved all we have at the moment is clinton and we will need cover during the season and finding 3 strikers than can work together in any combination will be steves hardest job!
Afterall we have austin who could cover left back as could woosley so we only need 1 of them

Exactly. Then get Gallen on a free and then Forssell or Roberts or whoever. Problem solved

Ray B has put this up on tonight's CP-FRIS bulletin...
"PALACE DO WANT FORSSELL
***********************
This is not press speculation...Palace have been in talks with Chelsea regarding the young Finnish striker.
Palace chief Simon Jordan and manager Steve Coppell are seeking a permanent transfer but Chelsea, apparently, favour a season-long
loan.
Don't expect any early resolution to the this matter as Forssell is currently on international duty with Finland. Talks between the two clubs will resume when he returns to the UK next week."
Personally, I think the season loan is the right idea. Given that opinion is definitely divided as to the boys merits, why not just borrow him for the season and save the transfer fee for a full-back and another striker?
arussell
19-07-2000, 04:40 AM
I totally agree with this sentiment.
I'm not entirely convinced yet by Forsell and a season long loan is a brilliant option to see how he could really bed in - plus give us cash to still sign a striker (as long of course that we don't have to always play him as part of the loan, as we did last season).
Eagle

The only problem with a loan is that Chelsea could call him back at any time and if he does start to find the net regularly then we would miss him. I wouldn't expect Chelsea to call him back if he did join on a loan but also if we can sign him permanently for a reasonable transfer fee which both Jordan and Coppell are happy with then go through it.
The boy will end up being a talent and at the age of 18 he will always improve and i'm pretty certain his valuation would double what we will end up paying for him.
Could this be another Coppell masterstroke signing?

Jason Roberts used to play for Wolves.... There is no way they would pay that for him after selling him for F.A

The problem with getting Forsell on a season long loan is the transfer price.
If he turns out to be a waste of space we would not want him and the loan would be good but....
suppose the guy comes good and score 20 goals for us, we would have to pay double next summer what we would this. It is a gamble and i think Coppell has proved that his judgement deserves our backing.

Exactly what i said Gonzo, i'm glad you agree with, the boy is a talent and i say snap him up now if the price is right.

I think we should sign him, been excited about it since Sunday, I mean we're talking about an 18 year old international who was coming back from injury last season and still looked O.K. Alright, he was overshadowed by Ash, but that boy's going to play for England.
He didn't hit it off straight away with Clint and he was overly greedy, but Wright and Bright's don't come along every day. The two of them, given time could take the division by storm, and it gives the mighty Coppell some breathing space to have a look around.
Now I'd better stop getting so excited before I push the fee up.
This is much better than talking about due diligence!!!!!
James Verrinder

But what sort of price would Chelsea want for him? Remember that AC Milan were one of the clubs after him before he joined Chelsea and despite our new found wealth,I cant see us wanting to enter bidding wars with the likes of them! Chelsea arnt complete mugs and I wouldnt be surprised if they put a price of around 3m on him. I agree with what people have said about him being a great prospect but I would much rather have someone like Roberts or Beattie upfront to give us a bity of physical presence.I can only really see Forssell coming on a long term loan and being snaped up halway through it by someone else.
Men At Work

After Leicester payed 5 million for Akinbiyi the price for any striker playing in England will now be inflated. So it's either looking in the lower leagues (3rd and conference), buying abroad, or making offensively low offers to clubs in financial difficulties.
James Verrinder
21-07-2000, 02:18 PM
I saw that Coppell said that he's finding it very hard to find players and had missed out on the better Bosman deals so I think that whoever we try to get will be overpriced as clubs get desperate for new signings. If we end up getting Forssell on a loan deal then he should sign at least one other striker to have around.
Gooders
21-07-2000, 02:51 PM
Yes, but don't forget that a lot of the stuff we've heard about Tommy Black implies that he could well be playing as a striker rather than a midfielder.
If that's the case, and we get Forssell, then I think defence becomes the priority.
James Verrinder
21-07-2000, 03:13 PM
I still think we need a big foward.Big as in physically big. I know what you think of my Gallen idea so I wont mention him today but someone like Roberts or Beattie. I'd also like them to have at least one or two full seasons behind them so they have a bit of know how ad a proven scoring record. Not asking too much am i?

I've never really liked Kevin Gallen to be honest, and he certainly isnt a big target man type of player.
I read in a Sunday newspaper the other week that Bradford were looking to offload Lee Mills. At the time I thought that this would be a decent signing, for around a million. However, the next day he scored a couple in the Intertoto, and I think Bradford now wanna keep him.

Jason Roberts would be very close to the top of my shopping list if I was chairman or manager of CPFC. But I'm not. Ah, well...
