As it's an early kick off you're best bet is probably to walk down to Piccadilly Gardens where there is a spoons and a pub a bit similar which opens early.

Easiest to drink in the city centre and get the metro to the ground. Just make sure you get on at a stop before Piccadilly if you want to avoid queues and get on essily.

If you're near Oxford Road station go to the Peveril at the Peak. A pub that has defied planning speculators & is a lurid coloured island in a sea of new offices. Good pub.

The Oyster Bar near the National Football Museum is good. Brews it's own stout and beers and nice and cheap. You can pick up the tram outside it.

I head to the Waldorf Pub on Gore street around 2 mins walk from Manchester Picadilly. Nice walk along the canal from there to the Etihad.

Far too early kick off to hit the pub before the game. Especially as I'm going to be hungover from a ball at the Manchester Hilton the night before...
