No chance at that price. Premier league is awash with money and championship teams are paying £15m for players. Someone will pay around £20m for Kone and probably more for Pickford.

It's possible he may have a relegation release clause like Townsend did at Newcastle. Sam would know.

Actually just tell him the game vs Swansea is his audition - keep a clean sheet and we'll pay him 150K a week.

It seems an obvious move for us to make (if we stay up) if we don't get Sakho.

Sir.S.C Remembered

I mentioned this one a while ago.

I know we love Sakho, but this time last year Kone's stock was very high indeed. My point being is that he is a quality player and there is far more value in getting someone who is no longer flavour of the month but has the ability and a manager who got that ability out of him, than someone who is currently on short term form. In terms of actual ability I'm not sure if there is a huge amount between Sako and Kone. Both been great under Big Sam. And obviously, their relegation offers purchasers an opportunity if we were to stay up.

He is on decent wages as he signed a new deal to stay there, but imagine there is a fee stated relegation release clause in there. Would free up funds for positions like ACM and RB.

I think the same about a Fabianski if Swansea were to go down. A good keeper, for far cheaper than a current hyped Pickford. Agree Pickford is young though. Yes Begovic is a good option here also.

Parish does like value.

I also have been suggesting the signing of Kone, he is bound to be high on Sam's list as will Defoe and the tall German guy at Sunderland (injured currently) who's name i cant think of, who can play CB or defensive midfielder, would be a super signing.
My concern with Kone though if he was to sign is, he is far too similar in style to Dann and Tomkins and would not be the left sided replacement CB we would need if Sakho was to leave.

That's the guy, i was unaware he was injury prone apart from the one currently, also not aware he was injury prone in Germany? however i read he would be available on a free, and would be a terrific signing playing either alongside OR as cover for Luka, depending on the system Sam plays.

I can't quite work Harry Maguire out. When I first saw him burst onto the scene I was really impressed and particularly when he started in the first team at 18 I think which is pretty unusual for a CB. He seemed to have a lot going for him.

Then he pretty much went into the doldrums and was regularly getting caught out. Credit to him he has stuck at it and worked his way back into the move to Hull. Always a fan favourite because he is a scrapper that looks like he will die for the cause. He also likes to charge forwards with the ball. All exciting stuff but I am not sure it's all great is it? He is frequently exhausted well before FT, he can be pretty clumsy, giving away unnecessary FKs and although his charges forward are exciting, he is hardly Beckenbauer is he and they rarely come to anything.

When I first saw him I probably posted on here somewhere that he might be worth picking up but I am not so sure now. To be fair he is still only 24 which is nothing for a CB and maybe with the right coaching he can mature into something far better but I think there are safer and probably cheaper bets.

I watched Kone carefully during the Hull games on Saturday and he looks better than 3 of our current squad CBs. He would be a good addition, but if we stay up and go for Sakho, I can't see us spending 50m on 2 central defenders.

Don't you think Tomkins and AN Other as first choice pairing, Dann and Kelly as the other options would be enough?

It may well be we want a 5th as SA does like using 3 CBs to see games out but if so, I think that the second CB signing would be a squad player and behind Dann in the pecking order.

Maybe a 5th CB optiom would be someone who can cover other positions too.

I disagree again. :)

I think we will sign at least two centre backs. Tomkins is perenially injured. Delaney is coming to the end of his career. Dann appears to be becoming a little injury prone too. AND more importantly I can see us switching to three at the back, maybe not all the time but on at least an occasional basis. All the big teams are doing it - Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea etc.

I know we've brought in Dougie to solve this in future but it really reflects poorly on Parish / FDB that it's got to this state. Certainly it suggests they have no working relationship to speak of to end up in this mess.

Regardless of who arrives I reckon FDB has a month and a half tops.

Yeah, fair enough and you don't need to justify. But is it not OK to say something feels uncomfortable and just say so?

As I said I was absolutely not accusing you of anything at all - and I was just genuinely saying it made me feel a bit awkward as did raise questions for me.

And you are certainly right with the Parkin reference and yes, I think I probably did hear it applied to Jedinak too.

I find it awkward when the middle aged, middle class white guy tells happy minorities they should be offended

Edit: I don't actually mean that as an insult to you really. Just a bit topical for me due to a really insistent PC brigade general actually being annoyed recently when a black guy found it funny about a joke assuming he had a big dick. Got very annoyed the black guy was laughing at it!

Overly PC police are infuriating
If I told someone what they should or shouldn't do/ say then the criticism of 'overly pc police' may make sense but I didn't do that at all. I very genuinely said it made me feel slightly uncomfortable and said I would be happy to be proven wrong on the reasons.

Don't know why I'm even justifying this, but off the top of my head:

Mile Jedinak, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Jon Parkin (the Preston fans literally shouted BEEEAAAAAST whenever he got the ball), Robert Huth. Need I go on?Maybe he would prefer black beauty?
What a Wally..

For those who think it is just way over top to question to raise, I genuinely think it is important to question things and explore them. And also question myself.

Anyway a quick Google suggests I am not the only person to wonder it.

I really, really am not accusing you of anything but I do find it a bit uncomfortable when people seem to use the word 'beast' predominantly when referring to black people.

Have certainly heard used to describe more players than Luka and Jedi but maybe I am more sensitive towards it due to always working in environments where you do have to be careful about any potential offence (even if not intended). I think maybe the best example I can give is when a colleague hard to answer some serious questions after he called a black child a "cheeky monkey". I fully believe that the colour of his skin was not in his thoughts at all and he would have said it regardless of the child's skin colour, but I can also see why it could potentially cause offence.

I find it amazing how many people are so dismissive with someone just raising a question on here.

May well be wrong as I said throughout the thread and was only speaking about how I felt about it.
People have disagreed with that, which is fine too, but why the snide comments?

You do know why. Certain personality types get angry and go on the attack when they sense that their behaviour is being questioned. You'll have come across extremes of this in your work when you see people with PD.

Personally, I think it boils down to making a non-racist feel they might be racist. It's pretty obvious to me.

I imagine you are being sarcastic but seriously where and how often does it get used for white players?

The bigger frame, stronger and mor muscular players are our club are black. If Shipps was around he'd get called it.
