On the one hand, it would be nice to have a pre-season where we actually play some competent opposition, our first XI play together a lot so they're prepared for the first day of the season, and won't throw 9-12 points away while we get up to speed. On the other hand, it is just one big money-making exercise at the expense of clubs lower down the pyramid who really need the cash from Premier League (or Championship...) sides visiting for a friendly. It's all a bit tacky.

It's also just a bit boring playing the same teams you play every week.

It might be streamed online. Hopefully more reliably than those pre-season games in South Africa (although that wasn't the club's fault).

Did you know the the City of Cape Town Council lost nearly 28 million rand from that tournament? Apparently it cost them 30 million rand to organise (including paying 12.4 million rand each to Palace & Sporting Lisbon) and only got 2 million back in direct revenue. No wonder it only lasted one year.

With Liverpool in the tournament tickets will be in great demand, the Stadium holds around 40,000. I have been looking at this since first rumoured and believe the Causeway Bay area may be best, its close to the ground and many attractions on Hong Kong Island.
But as above dont buy travel withou securing tickets first, although i believe there are usually ticket touts in plenty near the stadium (avoid)

The Excelsior Hotel (part of Mandarin Oriental Group), Causeway Bay is a very good location - both for the ground and surrounding nightlife.

Great bar in the basement (Dickens Bar).

Hotels aren't cheap in Hong Kong but travel is - taxis and the metro and very inexpensive.

By the time you have done the maths on this you realise you are spending the best part of 2k for a palace away friendly. I think i would sooner do a lads trip to vegas for that kind of cash (mind you I am not a huge fan of hong kong, found the place rather dull).

Did you just stay on the island? That is small so the sight seeing is limited. Was always my Number 1 place to live, but realized that with kids, Singapore was a better option.

Too old now to move there, but wish I had discovered it in my 20's/early 30's.

Bangkok just seems smelly and polluted plus the traffic is horrendous. I must admit there are some great places in Thailand, but Bangkok wouldn't feature on my list.

But if we all liked the same places, imagine how busy they would be - and everywhere else would be deserted. I love Asia.

I would prefer to live in hong kong or singapore. I just find bangkok a lot more interesting, exciting, different. Therefore a much better place to spend time when you don't have to worry about getting around and getting places on time.

I did leave the island but didn't venture very far from the harbour admittedly. I just thought the place lacked a bit of character. We had a nice time.

Wonder how many will travel to Hong Kong from the UK support of the four Clubs involved, surely those travelling all that way to support there Clubs should have some kind of priority on tickets, as otherwise it could be a wasted trip not to mention waste of money

In previous years it's been free seating. The stands are all connected so you can walk a full lap if you want. It'll just be a case of getting there early and setting yo behind a goal.

We are looking to buy for the north stand, which is unmarked seating, when tickets go on sale (at this site http://www.cityline.com/Events.do?lang=en_US). Block 139 is north stand right where the players emerge from tunnel.

A few of us plan to buy a couple of tickets so there might be some face value spares going depending on demand for Palace fans who don't manage to secure any for the games.

Local press here warning that the ticket website is likely to crash due to overwhelming surge in scouse tossers.

Both.

Select the one day, then buy more (something like that), takes you back to a drop down list box, select the next game.

For anyone worried, I am guessing there are lots of tickets left still.

It was allocating me sections 136 / 137 out of the range of (133-139). I was trying to get the system to give me 139 tickets but it wouldn't. I reckon it fills 133, then 134, etc etc. I didn't want to push my luck too much and the site die on me...

From what it looks like from the other clubs' forum, is that none of the clubs involved have been given an allocation to sell directly to fans travelling from here with many fans in the same boat of not having any luck online.

Wasn't able to get any, will have to try another method. Anyone know if there are any hospitality tickets ?
The lower tier of one of the side stands is pretty much all corporate. I'll keep an eye out over the next few weeks

Will be good to have you back Max. Your ticket request has been circulated on the group so if any spares crop up will let you know. Plenty here struggled to get any through the online system as well. Very frustrating seeing so many up on re-sale sites for twice the price already.

I'm going to be gutted if I can't get 2 tickets for the latter date. Really terrible treatment of your fans if you don't sort some options for proper season ticket holders.
They'll be available on the day outside the stadium if you don't get any beforehand

As in BOTH or EITHER? Didn't know that! Sweet!! Thanks.

Also, being available on the door sure, but fans ideally want them in hand before flying. Palace really should have got say 500 to sell on the fans site. Considering the number of regular away fans and then the % of those who would be able to make it out there in the circumstances, I'm sure this would have been plenty, made us feel like they actually care about us real fans rather than just marketing abroad and not even caused any real impact to any other ticket platforms etc. Points/membership needed of course.

Not at Mong Kok, tourny usually in the bigger stadium on the ISland, looks a bit like Huddersfield :) ...

Palace played there before in 1995, I believe.

Went here for the 3 days of the 7's in April this year. It's a great stadium, we had a blast. The saturday was absolutely out of control in the South stand. On another note, Carlsberg had the contract and 500ml of the piss was about 7 quid! You can easily smuggle in 'water sacks-camel bak' full of vodka though. :p:p

I was at the tournament 10 years ago, when Liverpool, Portsmouth and Fulham took part. My son was 8 years old at the time, and was so excited to be there. As I recall, it did sell out - but not so quickly as this year. We'll be back in the same place (Upper East stand), but only for the first day, unfortunately.

If you are going to HK you will almost certainly drink in the Lan Kwai Fong. It is full on crazy. Enjoy.

Flying from Perth & Sydney, get there on the 19th. Just need to decide on hotel in Wanchai or Causeway Bay. I have a stack of ff points but booking this late will have to go back via Brisbane so will stopover on the way home!

If we nobble a couple of their players in this, they may still be out exactly a month later..

I got a hotel in Causeway bay.
I got flights over there pretty easy with points, direct with Qantas. Coming back was harder for me and more expensive, so I ended up Air Asia via KL, and end up at the Gold Coast.
