I think Cabaye will stay. Delph is a good player and despite injury problems may be a good acquisition at the right price, but there are better attacking midfielders out there.

The sort of player we need. He's cracking on his day and has proven to work well with Benteke. I'd take him for the right price, but I'm sure we could do better.

Makes sense to me on the basis that there will be vacancies in the squad and we only buy in match-day quality players, so in effect YC and JMc get pushed down the pecking order.

So if Injuries occur,a Player has to Fight for his Place Back.

Sadly a quick Google showed he's been out injured over half the season for both of the last two seasons. 25 games missed through injury this and 27 last. You can take a player or 2 with an element of risk of injury but he's not worth it. Over half the season out at great expense

Delph is a very good player, even if he left Villa stupidly and like a d!ck.

I'd be happy with him at the club, but not on the wages he'd ask for. Transfer fee could be an issue too

Genuine question: how many of the games missed were through injury and how many simply because he's never been a first choice at City?

By the way, that is absolutely spot on, and how I'd like us to line-up. Same personnel could play 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 or 4-1-4-1:

----------------Tomkins------Dann-------Sakho----------------
Townsend------Cabaye------Luka--------Delph---------PVA
-------------------------Benteke----Zaha-------------------------

OR:

Tomkins------Dann-------Sakho--------PVA
Townsend----Cabaye------Luka--------Delph
---------------Benteke----Zaha---------------

OR:

Tomkins------Dann-------Sakho--------PVA
---------------------Luka----------------------
Townsend---Cabaye-----Delph------Zaha
--------------------Benteke-----------------

He is high energy, left footed, quick, hard working and a leader. Plus he has worked with Benteke before. Win win.

The fee being bandied around is 12m which is cheaper than I expected. Bearing in mind we paid that for Schlupp and more for PVA he seems good value. Might be a better fit for us now than before. Needs gametime which we can provide. But at that price would expect a lot of clubs to make offers.

12m for a Premier League-to-Premier League transfer would be a good deal. But he is now coming into his second season as a Championship player and Villa are now a Championship club, having failed to bounce back up.

Even given the English premium, we should not be looking at more than 6m for him, based on age and injuries.

If we were bidding, then it's all about Villa. Do they feel he can get them back to the Premier League or would they rather have the money to spend towards a 12-15m Championship striker to get them up again?
