He was never universally that popular with Liverpool fans even in his time there. Like most fans they wanted a player with his heart on his sleeve, like Fowler. Owen always seemed more calculating and looking at the career as much as the club. Which is an odd thing to be critical of really?

He's referred to United as 'we' since he's been on BT. I've always found it odd.

He was an Everton fan as a boy. Unsurprising that he is not as dyed in the wool as Gerrard or Carragher.

Carragher was an Everton fan as a kid...as were Robbie Fowler & Steve McManaman.

I should have Googled...nice spot!

However, I recall McManaman referring to Real Madrid as something akin to 'we' before.

Michael Owen was, is and always will be, as thick as shit.

Still richer than me though.

Yeah, to be fair - I don't think McManaman was held in the same regard by the Scousers as Gerrard, Fowler & Carragher.

Football was always just a job with him it seemed. Nothing wrong with that but he should learn to play the game a bit better as an ambassador.

Both clubs, and the ex-player involved are :jerkit:'s

Couldn't give a monkeys who is offended. Would be more interested in him being removed from commentary and analysis. Find him very dull.
