View Full Version : Match Updates: FA CUP FINAL 2017: Arsenal v Chelsea

bubbs11
27-05-2017, 05:58 AM
Kick off: 17:30

Will Chelsea be the first side in 7 years to win the double?
Is this Wenger's last game?
Is Ospina really playing ahead of Cech?
Will Conte or Arsene emulate Pardew's goal celebration dance?
Does anyone really care about the FA Cup Final anymore?

I hope the match is pure dung, that the thunder & lightning continue to pour down on the absolute divs that support both sides, and that the only effort on target comes at the very end of normal time and it's an own goal by Terry.

Piss on his final appearance, bollocks to the slugs that support them, deny them the double. Arsenal get a trophy their fans don't really care about, the wenger in/out divide continues from the win.

Forgot it was on to be honest. The FA cup was always a highlight of the season for me but unfortunately it's just the same handful of foreign owned franchises that win it every year and becoming the Emirates FA cup was the last straw.
Unless Palace are in it I could not give a toss!

It does feel different to last year.

Regarding the game I feel like it's who do I want to lose more. I dislike Chelsea more but Arsenal fans don't deserve to see them win a trophy. I think that it will be one sided and a 3-0 win for Chelsea.

I went up to the centre of London at Lunchtime and didn't see a Chelsea or Arsenal shirt until Victoria and he was coming away from town.
At Baker Street, Chelsea had taken over The Globe pub but it was hardly packed and you couldn't hear any chanting with a subdued atmosphere. Later went to Covent Garden where not single fan could be found so everyone could enjoy the street entertainers in the sunshine.

How different from last year.

Not for me. When it is played at 3 o'clock on a Saturday and is the final game of the season (which this year, it is) and when The Sky falls in, I might watch it again. Until then, a murrain upon the whole competition (unless Palace are in the final, or course)

That's what I thought - the new rule states if a player in an offside position interferes (influencing the play even without touching the ball) it's offside?

Ramsey was interfering, in my opinion, as he's right in front the goalie and goes towards the ball. If he had turned towards the centre of the pitch and moved that way instead, then I'd be more inclined to agree that he was no longer 'active' and not distracting the goalie.

But it was good for the match that Arsenal took the lead, as I thought Chelsea might cruise this one when I saw the Arsenal teamsheet.

As soon as Sanchez gets to the ball first it is irrelevant what Ramsey is doing. Yes, he's in an offside position, yes he's interfering with play, but Sanchez hasn't passed or shot so no offside can be called. If Sanchez had hesitated then maybe there's a case for offside but he made an immediate assessment and ran onto his own ball. Chelsea should have played to the whistle.

The one thing that's struck me watching this final is how little it really means to Chelsea or Arsenal... players and fans. It's going through the motions for them.

Why couldn't we have held on for 8 ******* minutes... twice :(

The funny thing is I'm sat on a rooftop bar garden in the middle of New York right now overlooking the Empire State Building. I thought I'd quickly log in to check the cup final result and seeing all the photos and live updates on the Beeb has bought last year all flooding back to me. I should be lording it up right now, but instead I'm pissed right off heart broken wishing we could have just ******* hung on last year! If Clattenberg was here right now he'd be getting slung off of this rooftop. Ahh well, venting done, back to my holidays!

Can't be offside if the first player to the ball after Sanchez kicks it is Sanchez himself. He never released the ball.

Not offside under the new interpretation but just seen a replay on BT and Taylor seems to blow his whistle just before the ball enters the net and the game should then be dead and the goal cannot be awarded so it has to restart with either a free-kick for the incorrect offside or a drop ball on the six yard line.

Really good final. Was kind of hoping for a late equaliser and extra-time.

This, for me.

Decent enough. Arsenal deserved the win although I'm not convinced the goal should have stood or Moses sent off (wasn't a pen obviously). Glad Wenger got a bit of redemption at least.

Shame that Arsenal fans are such a bunch of self entitled ***** though.

I agree about the goal (for the handball at least), but if yellow cards are going to be given for diving then that's about as clear as you're going to get. Ref had a great view too.

A really good game, Arsenal deserved it and could have had a good few more. Was great to see two teams really fighting for the cup. I thought the ref had a great game

If it wasn't a pen then I can't see what other decision the ref could make given he was already on a yellow.

Victor is the only reason why I'll keep an eye on Chelsea games, but IMO the ref was absolutely right to send him off for cheating.

The ref got the Moses call right. Can't see how people are saying the ref have a good game tho. He watched Sanchez handball on the way to scoring the first goal. A goal that completely changed the dynamic of the match.

Apart from the 1st goal..

Not complaining as I'm glad to see Chelsea lose. Apart from the handball for the 1st goal surely if going by McArthur's disallowed goal earlier in the season when the so called experts said it was rightly disallowed as he made a movement towards the ball how the hell did that Arsenal one get allowed?

I enjoyed the game but it did turn on the first goal and the sending off. Still not sure the first goal was valid but them's the breaks.

As for Victor, well.....That was the lamest attempt to get a pen that I've seen for a while and doing that on a yellow? What the bloody hell was he thinking? Left the ref little choice. Shame because he's had his first good season at Chelsea but this is probably now what Chelsea fans will now remember. Arsenal rightly exploited the hole he previously occupied.

Having said this, Arsenal were the better team and deserved it on balance. Chelsea were off par but I would imagine Arsenal fans are happy and frustrated all at the same time. If they played like that more consistently during the season then they would certainly have CL football next season.

So I guess this performance means the Wenger pantomime will continue for another couple of years.

Moses dive was the most blatant you could ever hope to see and a rightful yellow card , he was given a torrid time all game

Feel bad for VMo although he deserved it for such a blatant bit of cheating. Shame it wasn't one of their serial divers who got caught though (Hazard and Pedro)

The one thing that's struck me watching this final is how little it really means to Chelsea or Arsenal... players and fans.

I was at Cannon Street last night, and there were plenty from both sides coming home.

There was absolutely no way to tell who had one from the demeanour of the fans, they all looked as miserable as sin

A couple of thoughts:

Clear dive by Moses - left the ref with no other option. What I would like to see for things like that is a sin-bin for say 20 minutes. Punishment for diving would be logged, and any future infringement would see a similar sin-bin, followed by a two match ban.

I do not understand the offside law any more. How on earth is that not offside? The law is now officially crazy. He was offside, in front of goalkeeper and goal and shaped to play the ball. This affected the keepers action/reaction. That is about as active as it gets. Sorry, Taylor got that one wrong.

Time to scrap all this crap. Offside position within 10 yards of the ball is offside. End of. Not back to when players 20 yards away or lying injured counted as offside, though.

Oh, and it was handball as well. Apart from that, a good goal

And Chelsea lost :D

Moses, already on a yellow, blatantly tried to con the ref. Had he succeeded and Chelsea scored the pen, the whole course of the match would have been altered.

Imagine how flaming furious we'd have been to be on the receiving end of that cheating.

There are times when a player 'goes down easily' from a challenge, but there are also occasions when a player has deliberately simulated a foul and cheated. Sadly Moses did the latter and only has himself to blame.

Ref was v well placed and deserves credit for this decision.

Exactly. Moses knew what he had done and didn't try to argue. Ref was spot on.

Whitgift old boy victor was struggling a bit before first yellow and clearly did not expect to be carded for the dive as he tried to make an impression on the game. So many have got away with it including his fellow Chelsea players who clearly did not read of the new determination to address this form of blatant cheating
You have to say well done ref .How will Chelsea hierarchy react to it I wonder.
