View Full Version : Discussion: Nathaniel Clyne?

Supposedly he might be up for sale this summer. Personally I would love to see him back here, he would slot right in to right back and Ward would push him a lot for his place.

Him and Zaha back in the same team. :lux:

Er, no

He isn't coming back and would cost too much anyway

There is another Liverpool player I would much prefer too!

Sakho first, anyone else on Planet Earth second

Would love Clyne back though

Wasn't he linked to Barca at some point since Klopp's arrival?

Didn't think he looked as good (relatively) at the end of the season for some reason. Obviously would love him back here but not even remotely likely is it.

No, let's move on from the fixation of ex-players.

I could understand this argument if it was about signing a player like Dean Moxey.

But Clyne would be a definite improvement on Joel Ward.

If it was in any means possible, 100% yes.

People are fixated with ex Palace men but this is an exception. Nathaniel Clune and PVA/Schlupp on the left flank offers some real quality out wide with Townsend and Zaha. Of course it's very, very unlikely of happening but it's mad there's people saying no.

One of the few ex-players that Id presently take back. However, much more important areas to improve on.

Is he better than Ward? Yes.

How people are saying no is beyond me.

If there was any chance of this then YES YES YES. No question.

However, sadly I feel there is in fact NO chance :(

Agree with him being an improvement. My issue would be how much of an improvement in relation to the fee he would command and was that premium worth it.

I'm not sure our fan base would be interested on that basis if he had no connection with us.

Who's saying he's not better than ward ?

Of course he is. It's just that there is 0% chance of us signing him

When centre back, goalkeeper, attacking midfield, and backup striker are greater priorities than right back, we can't really afford to be shelling out on England internationals.

You may be right, but we all said that about Benteke a year ago to be fair

Right back is as big a priority.

Sadly it wouldn't ever happen- no chance at all. But anybody on here saying we wouldn't want him is deluded. Same as Moses.

Right back is the 2nd biggest priority after center back, but signing Clyne is impossible (unfortunately)

CP-RJW

No way, Ward is solid enough defensively when in the right system. Backup striker is more important because Wickham is never fit so if Benteke gets injured who the hell are we left with? Goalkeeper: You can't seriously be saying that Ward is in need of replacing more than Wayne. Attacking mid is so we have the ability to break down teams that come to Selhurst and park the bus, otherwise our home form will continue to be shite and we'll keep losing to the likes of Burnley, Sunderland and Swansea. Centre back is more important as we only have 2 premier league quality ones, and Tomkins is very injury prone.

Attacking mid and back up striker are far more important than a right back, ward is steady! Clyne will not want to come back either unfortunately

SilentAssassin

I don't think it is totally out of our reach. The only question is if we could get a good deal. Knowing he is an England international he will have an inflated fee and perhaps we could get a good player for cheaper.

People thought Benteke was out of our reach and surely there is no way Clyne's transfer would be that big of a deal that Benteke's was.

Can't see him being interested. Spent his last season clearly wanting to move on (reasonably understandably). Would surely see Palace as a backwards move.

Would love it to happen. Those sniffing at it are loopy - he's class. Ward needs competition. Not gonna hold my breath for Clyne.

Yes he does, but not as badly as we need a competent goalkeeper, a backup striker, an attacking midfielder and a centre back. Given how much we spent in January, I have doubts we'll even be able to afford all of the above, let alone a right back on top of that. Ward with Kelly as back up isn't ideal but it's better than only having one decent striker (as Wickham is always injured,) 2 decent centre backs (1 of which is injury prone) + Kelly, no decent goalkeepers or no attacking midfielders.

for our transfer dealings with scouse, priorities should be

1) Sakho
2) Ward, the HTAFC keeper
3) Clyne

Now, if we could get all 3 for 40 million, that would be some good business.

Clyne's clearly ambitious, and objectively has made good moves at the right time throughout his career. He's in a side that has just achieved CL football, and is in and around the England squad. Being English he is especially valuable, as counts towards Home Grown quotas.

Why he would move from a side that just achieved CL qualification (a first for him) back to his old club, who will likely be in the mix for a relegation scrap?

Mental.

We currently live in a batshit insane world where we would probably offer better wages than Spurs.

I want to say 'let that sink in', but I really don't think I want it to. It's mental. ******* mental.

Would obviously be a great addition, and not a sentimental one, but I'm pretty sure he would be aiming higher. Wasn't he part of Spurs academy but thought the commute was too long?

Benteke, Ibe, Sakho, Clyne, Sturridge - Mane last man standing ?
