Shocking and sad news.

I always wanted Pardew to sign him during his tenure, a good ball winning midfielder. I still remember his peach against Arsenal.

RIP.

He played once at Selhurst in that impressive 0-3 demolition by Pardew's Newcastle on 21st December 2013 in what was only Pulis' 5th match in charge (he'd won his first 2 home matches). As well as a Hatem Ben Arfa penalty, Newcastle's scorers were Yohan Cabaye and an own goal courtesy of Danny Gabbidon. Also featuring for Newcastle that afternoon were Loic Remy and Shola Ameobi (remember them?!)

His other 2 appearances against Palace were painful 0-1 defeats at St James Park. That last minute sickener by Pap Cissé in March 2014 when we still looked to be in serious trouble under Pulis but the result kick-started 5 consecutive wins that ultimately saved us. Just over 2 years later we were sunk by a brilliant Andros Townsend free kick. Yohan Cabaye's feeble penalty handed them the points but wasn't enough to save them from relegation. He didn't feature in the intervening season for some reason. I can't honestly say that he stuck in my memory from those matches but he appeared to have a positive effect.

Very Very sad news especially when so young. But i can't help but feel looking at pictures of him training in China he looked very bloated in the face, not knowing anything of his health issues, but just my brief observation of how he appeared. Tragic news though.

R.I.P Cheick Tiote
