Would save us 15-20 points a season.

No i have never heard of him either

27 years old doesn't appear to have ever played enough games in a season to have been considered a first choice.

Exciting.

Should sign purely because Sergio is a great footballer's name.

If we sign him then I reckon Hennessey is number 1. Please god no.

Their fans rate him highly and expect him to be sold this summer. One of the best goalkeepers in the dutch league, but apparently there are not many good ones. Command on crosses may be his weakness (when was the last time we had a goalkeeper who had this as a strength?).

I think he's been Groningen's first choice keeper the last few seasons: http://www.foxsports.com/soccer/sergio-padt-player-stats

Is he any good on Championship Manager?

Looks like an absolute unit.

Not sure about FM and FIFA, but he looks decent on Youtube. This guy on the cheap as competition for Hennessey + Sakho, a good right back, and competition for Benteke would be fine by me:

Pretty much all professional keepers are good shot stoppers. I want someone who commands his box and rarely makes a mistake. No idea if this guy qualifies.

I like him in those YouTube videos because he seems confident composed and assertive whilst not being a dick. Not much to go on I admit. Grasping at straws really. Well it's preseason ffs.

Groningen supporting family member's reaction:
"Really? Wow. I mean he's great for Groningen, but for a Premier team? Hahaha!"

Whenever I see the GK videos I always wonder if seasonlowlights are more useful for keepers. Dropped cross, duff attempts at saves etc from a season.

Apparently has a really low release clause in his contract.

In that case get him in, we then have more money for a striker :p

Has he ever caught a bottle of water during an interview?

If not, I'm out.

Hmmm reminds of Jules a bit with the way he leaps around and try to push the ball out. I'm guessing he's on the shorter end for a keeper.

6 foot 3 and a half, pretty average.

Maybe there is a good reason for that.

Yes, like the club rewarding his long service with a low fee transfer clause, or putting in that clause in lieu of higher wages, or it could be a low amount because he's crap: but the latter would not make any sense.

By the way, I know nothing about him, or his contract. :afro:

A position where I think we would be better off bringing in the best we could afford, rather than going for a cheap option.

Buy cheap, buy twice.

His price isn't set by market values though because of the clause in his contract, so your argument doesn't really stand up.

It's similar to Townsend, a similar player would have cost way more without the clause he had in his contract.

I have no idea if this guy is any good or not though.....

We have a history of getting seemingly promising keepers that turn out dodgy, so maybe this one will succeed ?

I read City tried to sign Pepe Reina recently and offered 1.5m but apparently can be had for 3-4 m, still only 33 and a quality way above we currently have, for me makes him a Keeper well worth considering.
The only issue may be his wages, but i would have thought worth a discussion with his agent.

If we really want Clissen maybe we should point that out to Barcelona should would need a new backup keeper (or did he leave in a strop?)

Valdez would be another option for that game (though I think he did leave in a strop)

Discussions with agents are very topical at the moment.

The reporter next to him would have got it anyway. To be fair, it was quite impressive :)

I read the Cillessen option is out of the window as he wants to stay. So realistically i can see FdB settling on a Dutch option, whoever that maybe.

Unfortunately that today is the first port of call in any discussions, whether we like it or not.

Reina wouldn't go to be back up. He still wants to play. There was talks of Napoli signing Geronimo Rulli but he would only be back up to Reina.
