England ladies play again this week, Thursday night. Semi final.

Did really well to beat France sunday, first time since 1974.

On the radio, commentator said there was Orpington England flag at the stadium.

Did wonder if it was Palace?

The England ladies GK coach is ex Palace youth Lee kendall. Nice Palace link.

If they don't win the whole thing now I think it's going to be deemed a bit of a failure, hopefully they keep their nerve.

They'll be without first choice keeper. Mind you she was substituted in quarters injured and her stand in did very well

Watching the Denmark v Austria game over here, second period of extra time, Danes looking tired, can see Austria winning this on pens. Would be nice to have a Denmark v England final though.

Best chance ever

With Germany, Spain and France already gone it does look more likely, but they were second best against both France and Spain and were very fortunate to win both.
They really need to keep the ball and begin to look like winners.....

But still be shouting for them....:lux:

Why not ffs this is identical to the disappointment you get watching the men's national side.

Last two goals comedy of errors. Dutch played well. England just didn't.

Subs should have been made bit earlier.

Not sure Fran Kirby shouldn't have been subbed too

Lack of composure in possession
Aimless long balls
Hit and hope most of the time
A manager with no Plan B

I always get a sense of Deja Vu watching England in football tournaments

You make it sound like the Lionesses winning would be a bad thing?

CJ PLUM

The game reminded me of so many similar performances by both English national and club sides including Palace last season. When put under pressure players resort to long balls to clear it far away from their area of responsibility and make unrealistic attempts on goal from long distance with little chance of success. Then at the end of the game they claim that the ball did not fall for them and chances did not go in when in fact they are playng a low percentage game.
In chasing the game more and more forwards are thrown on which only accentuates the problem. I thought Jordan Nobbs was wasted out wide in the first half as she along with Lucy Bronze were England's best players. I think we should have resorted to a 3-4-3 formation with Bronze pushed further forward as the wing-back so that England gained more control in midfield.
Steph Houghton also had a strangely nervous game and lost the Dutch forward for the first goal.

It is clear that he feared never hearing the end of it had they won would be a bad thing. He made no comment on whether winning it would be a good or bad thing.

Excuse me: Like the understandably euphoric reaction of many to the Lionesses winning would be annoying and essentially, a bad thing.

If they had of won it would of had a very positive impact on girls football in this country.
Mark Samson got it all wrong tatically, the big dutch centre half was loving all the high long balls. He changed it too late. However the keeper was a big lose, as was the midfieder whos name i cant remember who was suspended.

It would certainly get on his nerves apparently. Not the actual winning (as you wrongly implied) but " never hearing the end of it".
Nor did he say either winning or hearing the reaction would be " essentially, a bad thing." Just ( for him) annoying.
I'm a fan of many sports and entirely ambivalent about others. I too get tired of media hype of stuff I'm not interested in. Don't you?

Ultimately, I guess you can only get so far with spirit and fitness.

Awful until they conceded the first goal but then the better team.

Lots of lumping (the Dutch defenders had a foot height advantage!).

3 or 4 very good players and the rest looked pretty ordinary - same for the Dutch really.

Some ridiculously ambitious goal attempts (30 yard shots, 25 yard awful free kicks, 30 yard volleys, overhead kicks from the edge of the box - much more composure needed).

The standard of the women's game seems to have dropped since I last watched it in 2015.

At least the manager took it well and spoke well after being an arrogant T*at all tournament.
