Very hard to decide on 5 from GC and Climbers. Not gone for Froome, but not sure on a Yates or Chavez.

This has come around quickly!

A quick look at the route suggests it's more than the usual array of short, sharp climbs this year.

Lots of contenders, but who's taking it seriously and who's been on the pies since the Giro/Tour?

Had similar thoughts.
Chavez was a useless Velogames pick at the Tour De France so I'm very reluctant to pick him again for this but it is a race he performs well in.

So many questions ...

How well will the TDF riders do? Froome may still have a bit of form since he wasn't really pushed all the way. He probably calculated that victory.
Is Woet Poels worth a punt a bit like Landa was in the TDF?
Bardet was cooked at the end of the TDF and ag2r have Pozzovivo for the GC.
BMC say they have 3 riders going for the GC: Roche, Caruso and TVG! Can't see any of them doing so well.
Orica also have 3 GC riders: Chaves and the Yates twins. Hard to know if the TDF has helped Chavez to ride into some form.
Is the Vuelta not going to be too hard for Nibbles?
What about the Quick-Step team? Jungels did very well in the Giro ... De la Cruz did well in last year's Vuelta ... Is Alaphilippe worth a punt just for a stage win or two?

The only certainty is that we won't waste a lot of points on the sprinters 'cos there aren't any of note!
Mre tinkering to come today and tomorrow.

Definitely much easier to get under budget than the TdF, what with only one rider above 20 points and no sprinters worthy of the name. But if anything that makes it harder because almost every permutation is possible...

Will be away for a week. We're actually staying very near the foot of the Mont du Chat (TDF Stage 9). I've taken the bike but I don't have silly gears on it so I'll be doing some more relaxing "parcours"! :D
I'm not sure about internet connections up there so hoping others will be putting results and Velogames updates!

Apparently, it is very windy out there.

What about Nibali? Didn't watch the stage but seen he said he wasn't expecting ride so well this early, plus he didn't ride the your so must have more in the tank. Problem is his team isn't as strong as Sky.

Like always it will come down to the team like you said, it was all Team Sky yesterday.

I hope it is interesting though!

If it was a mountain top finish Chavez and Froome own everyone. If there's a notable ITT then Froome should hold off Chaves fairly comfortably.

Think I've got lucky with a few of my picks, so expect to drop away from the heady heights of third. Mainly as I don't think I have a real GC contender, so when the big mountains start, my points may well be limited!

A different-looking stage today, with a longer, steadier climb and the 20km of the descent at the end.

It's a proper mountain stage today with two long cilimbs and a mountain top finish. It's cold, wet and windy down there. Could see some fireworks on the descent today!

Looks like the break aren't being given much leeway today.

Yesterday gave quite a big shake-up in GC. Today it all seems more sedate.

It feels like the race as a whole has failed to spark much interest, though - at least on here.

Froome's strength making it boring? Are the stages maybe too samey and repetitive?

Today is a big one: the short, "nervous" stage where some riders always get caught out. Let's see ...

Certainly is, really looking forward to it (thank goodness Palace aren't playing today) - expect that Bertie will go for it as his final mountain Grand Tour stage. Those above him in the GC should be worried. Have really enjoyed watching him this Vuelta, almost back to his best and, despite the shadow that remains over him, will really miss him next year.

It has been an excellent Vuelta.

Can't disagree with any of that. I'm just hoping that Froome and his team-mates have an off-day just to add a little suspense. Lopez to win the stage. The weather's not supposed to be too good either.

To use the phrase of a former commentator was a delight to see Contador "dancing on the pedals" up the Angrilu to victory, shame he won't get onto the podium in Madrid but a great way to sign out.

As for Froome, while a little more predictable, it feels as though it is going some way to right the wrongs of Cobo the last time the race was settled there and the disappointments of Robert Millar in 1985.

I think Hinault did it across years. Giro and Tour in 82, and Vuelta in 83 (when it was run earlier).

So pleased for Froome and Team Sky, they bossed it and deserve all the plaudits once again - what a fantastic Summer.

And to think that people were doubting them with no wins prior :lux:

I think Hinault did it across years. Giro and Tour in 82, and Vuelta in 83 (when it was run earlier).

Not bad company to be in!

Woo hoo!

Scant consolation with everything else that is happening, though.

Contador was absolutely brilliant to watch over the last couple of weeks. Glad he got the win.

I wouldn't say I'm particularly a Contador or a Froome fan, but Saturday's stage had a very satisfactory outcome all round.
