Just seen an article suggesting Ben Watson could be an ideal signing for us as Watford could look to offload him.

I think his delivery from set plays could be a huge plus for us especially with Benteke, who will thrive on the crosses provided.

Are we not a club looking to improve and make a step up? this would be a step backwards in my eyes!

Much as I respect Ben, we need fresh legs and quality. I would rather we invest in other positions.

I'm not suggesting him starting games, but from the bench and as a squad player he could be an asset.

Bit of a strange article, how has the writer come up with that one out of the blue.

We don't need a 32 year old centre mid.

We seem to have a surplus of those sort of players......

We already have too many of those and seemingly can't shift them to release funds.

We've already got Milivojevic, Puncheon, Cabaye, Loftus Cheek, and McArthur. 5 covering 2 spots...we don't need another! Although we should play 3 in central midfield.

We have an enormous problem right now where fringe players who cant get on the pitch are eating up wages, why on earth would we go sign more?

Is Hayden Mullins still playing?

The worst thing about this thread is the revelation that Ben Watson is 32.
Time really does fly by these days.

Do we have a player in our squad who could deliver a corner or free kick like Watson? I think he's a better player than Puncheon or at least equal to and I'm sure we can all see that if Puncheon carries on playing the way he is at the moment then he needs to be dropped.

No he is 38 years old and was last spotted at Watford as assistant to Under 21 coach Harry Kewell.;)

I seem to recall that when he was here, he was slated for his set piece deliveries. I certainly remember his corners hardly ever clearing the first man and being headed away at ease!

Ah yes but he is 7 years younger than Mullins.;)

Agree Punch needs replacing but unless the rules change in line with NFL with a kicker coming on not viable as agree with North Palace 23 we have a surfeit of midfielders covering the two positions ;)

If Cabaye is off to Marseille (for say 10m, last year of contract) to help fund Sakho, then as a short term cheap (say 2m) experienced option in midfield it makes a bit of sense given he played 32 times for Watford last year (so is better than a Mutch, Lee, Williams type midfield option).

Does Cabaye out and Sakho & Watson in make us better?

We should not be picking up 2nd/3rd string players from teams that we should be finishing above.

Yeah when he was young and learning he got booed quite a lot. His set pieces became excellent over time.

I hope he joins so I can boo him on the walk up to a penalty.

Every midfielder we have is far superior to Watson, and that includes Mutch.

I'm not saying I wanted Watson, but I don't agree that Mutch is better than him. Mutch is better than nobody.

Would have been brilliant when we came up, when there was a link then, but not anymore, he's not the player he was and we've moved on, and it's about our one position of strength and depth, other than LB.

Despite regularly assisting from corners and free kicks. There was one season when he set up virtually every goal in a long run of games (under Warnock?)

He could replace Campbell as someone to pointlessly boo and berate.

If only he had scored the penalty against Bristol City in the play offs. Our whole history could have been different. Maybe Simon Jordon would still be the owner? Maybe fate decreed that he would miss so that we could get Parish et al

I think we have a bed in the Arthur annex, along with all the other Palace pensioners some people tend to get all sentimental over and offer him a decent weekly pay cheque, two good meals a day, and a commode next to his bed. :wallbash:

I'm still pi55ed that Gary Johnson was allowed on to the pitch to give a team talk after he was sent to the stands.
