As we are heavily linked to both players - what is the consensus on which is the better centre back taking into consideration the associated costs of the two players?

Wimmer's a better long term investment at 24 but we know exactly how much influence Sakho has on this team.

If money wasn't an issue I'd choose Sakho without a doubt.

We won't be signing either of them

Neither for me.

Sakho is the much better player but too expensive. Think we can do better than Wimmer for the money mentioned.

I still think Sakho will sign, but it will take a few weeks for him to recover from his injury.

The way it's going the only Wimmer we can afford is Michael, and his front crawl isn't the best these days.

Who?

I'd rather have Sakho but Wimmer would be a bloody good alternative, especially for the reported 15m fee.

That's what we have scouts for.

Wimmer is no better than Tomkins. I don't think he's great on the ball either so I can see why WBA were in for him.

Sakho. I'd sacrifice my family for Sakho if I had to.

His higlights video makes him look like Beckenbauer with his passing but then again, so would Delaney's.

Wimmer is no better than Tomkins.

Don't know about that.

Spurs fans I've spoken to don't want to lose him and said he was an able replacement when Aldewiereld was out injured.

It's easy to say 'We can do better', but in terms of young centre halves with decent Premier League and international experience I'm not sure we can. I certainly can't think of anyone.

Think the OP should of put Sakho for 25 million or Wimmer for 15 million as it is a bit misleading. My heart says Sakho, head says Wimmer.

Heart says Sakho
Head also says Sakho because he is five times the player

And, unlike in forward positions, I would be happy for us to jettison some defenders to make it happen. I'd be happy to lose Delaney, Kelly, Ward, and even one of the 3 left backs! Get it done Palace.

LOL who is better for the money mentioned? It's almost half the price of what City have offered for Johnny Evans. 15 million is good business, your Spurs mate doesn't know what he's talking about as all my Spurs mates say he's very good. Came into a few big games after a period of time out and made a couple of mistakes but other than that they said they didn't really miss Vertonghen when he had a long term injury.

All these people saying wimmer is no good, go and watch some spurs games where he has filled in strong controlling and can actually header a ball.. for 15 million in this market, top quality signing and by a mile better than tomkins!!

Who said anything about mates? My opinion not anyone else's.

Let's see if and when he signs.

Neither , we have plenty of cover at the back , the money should be spent on bringing an attacking midfielder that can score goals and provide chances and a striker .

I thought you said it was your mates opinion on the Wimmer thread but if not I stand corrected. You are clueless then:D

Someone we've all seen play vs someone none of us have seen much

2 seasons out of Sakho would be worth it

Wimmer, cheaper therefore allowing us money for other key positions and will have bigger resale potential

Sakho we stay up Wimmer we may stay up for me as to be Sakha, another reason we get 4-5 yrs out of him that's 500 million minimum we can bank.

15m for Wimmer is value
30m + wages is expensive for Sakho.
If buying Wimmer allows us to bring in a couple more attacking options I'd be happy.
That would give us Dann, Tomkins, Wimmer, TFM, Kelly, DD and Ward who can all play CB.
I'm guessing one or two will go.

My thoughts exactly!

Plus we could sign both if Kelly and one of Dann or Tomkins is sold.

Plus if Ward is sold if Mensah can in fact play RWB. I leave that question to people better than me to judge that.

A bloke on a flight i was once on, when they were doing the food and asking "Beef or chicken?" said "Both please" and he got both!! I was well envious and still haven't summoned up the courage to ask for both but i will one day and I will feel happy and satisfied when I do and get both....having said that I was in economy and these geezers are business class...where do we want to sit as a club???

He is a proven fit at the club and around the fans, and his attributes are a million times closer to the system FDB wants to play than anyone else we have so... benefit of the doubt yeah?

So if we get Sakho do we then think Scott Dann is going to do a Paul Warhaurst and become a striker , Because that is what we NEED

This is Crystal ******* Palace , we'll get porridge.

This is Crystal ******* Palace , we'll get porridge.

On a 6am Air China flight from Bangkok to Beijing the stewardess gave me a choice of porridge that looked like watery soup or fish balls. Both absolutely stunk and I nearly chundered from the aroma so declined both.

I'm not sure of the moral of the story or if indeed it's relevant.

But what if we got Sakho for 20m and Wimmer was 18m. Who then?

FFP or STCC (dunno, ask Andy Street) are dependant on wages. Sakho will be north of 100k (probably) so i'll stick with my original answer

Whilst i like what Sakho done for us last season i don't think he's the ball playing centre back we are after but in saying that i have no idea if Wimmer is comfortable on the ball either.

Of the two i think Wimmer is more likely as he's the cheaper option.

Sakho all day long. This club needs a character and leader right now which appears lacking. Sakho is the man!
