Because we all like to discuss former players returning and that.

Newcastle are looking to offload.

Not that I was serious at all however, Parish points and FFP permitting, surely we have enough in the bank to attract a better player than Gayle but.... we have 1 fit first team striker at the club. Dare I say it, if he's within the supposed budget, would it really be that bad?

Gayle or Niasse, who would people choose, given the choice?

Mitrovic instead (maybe)

I wouldn't want Gayle back but i wonder how good he'd be in a 4-4-2 with Benteke?

People deserve to be burdened with such a matter after the last few days.

Be like shagging an old girlfriend, and then remembering that she was a shit shag, and that's why you kicked her to the kerb.

(For the avoidance of doubt, i do not advocate the kicking of girlfriends, unless they are particularly kinky and get off on that - then post pics of it.)

You're asking the wrong question, how good would he be in 343 playing lwb

I'm sure a few fans would think that's a bargain.

We sold him for what? About 10 million? I'd have him back for 5-8 million assuming there are no better alternatives (and he wanted to come). We could always sell him to this years relegated sides for another nice profit (unless that happens to be us, in which case Gayle is clearly a good option in the Championship).

But really, he wasn't that bad was he? Worked hard, could possibly play either side of Benteke, good for a few goals. Surely an upgrade on Campbell. He'd have put away one of those chances Cayabe and Lee had against Swansea...

But 20 million? By that reckoning Benteke is 'worth' at least 80 million. Its no wonder we can't get anyone in.

Great option for the Championship under Dougie next year. Get him in now while he's available.

Exactly how I see it as well. Not that I think signing Gayle is a step forward for us but if there was a striker like him available with a bit more quality (Perez?) we should be all over it.
I'd personally take Gayle back if he was affordable. It's not like we have great alternatives waiting in the wings at the moment with Wickham out and if we are actually linked with Niasse, I'd rather see Gayle back here.

A player who guarantees 20-30 goals in the championship (would've easily been 30+ last season if not for injuries) for 20 million is good business if he wins you promotion. Big if though.

If they were the numbers I'd go for it, Benteke will always be first choice but we need someone to bring on in games we are chasing.
We currently have 1 viable striker, we need 4 and from the look of thing we don't have buckets of dosh to spend we need him or someone like him.

Even if Townsend has to go to finance it.

No ******* thanks. We already have enough players who can't pass or make movements off the ball. He wasn't good when we had him, he's been terrible this season for Newcastle. Move on.

Not surprised. They got him in to do a job, he did it, now they realise he won't get many in this league

No thanks. We need a busy hard working striker who will hustle and harry defenders into mistakes - Gayle does not work hard enough.

In the absence of anyone else on the bench - I'd have played Shluppy up top second half last week (his favoured position a few years ago - was prolific during a loan spell at Brentford).
