View Full Version : Chris Coleman...the BBS has got it wrong!

He seems hated and massively underrated on these boards, got Wales to Euro semi-finals and showed again the other night that he has the nerve to make changes at half-time and substitutions that won the game against Austria.... Compare him to Gareth Southgate or Roy Hodgson he pisses them both!
He's better than we think ... We should consider him as a future manager!

Agree with some of this, I remember his performance at home to Reading in a 2-0 defeat in November 1995 and he literally couldn't give a toss and wasn't even prepared to break sweat for the team. In terms of a manager it would be a no from me. Does he still live in Kingswood? I know Sonny (his boy) is still local to the area and lives off the "Coleman" name

Did well at Fulham initially but has been an absolute disaster at club level ever since.

If he's got any sense he'll stay with Wales as long as they'll have him. They're well suited.

Didn't he also refuse the captaincy and complained when Richard Shaw went for £1M and said that he was no better than Shaw and that we should let him go cheaply but subsequently got sold for £2.8M

There's a whole big wide world of people out there who didn't play for the club.

He wouldn't be considered by any other Premier League club and the only reason he gets mentioned about being a manager here is because he's a former player.

Wonder if we'll ever get over being so sentimental as a club.

This the same manager that has picked free agent Joe Ledley for the national side and Jonny Williams who has been playing u23 football all summer? Then again just goes to show how poor Wales are bar a few players.

Prior to FdB being appointed, we did not exactly have candidates breaking down the gates outside Selhurst Park to get in, and if the manager is now sacked after 3 games is certain to put many off especially the worthwhile ones from applying.

Was voted in the centenary team which is a bit odd considering he is not the most popular these days. Not too mention Young and Thorn being far superior.

My thoughts re. Coleman have always been the same - Employ him and you will get a cracking Christmas do. That's about it.

He is of course a mans man and bit of lad and huge character etc etc but ultimately not good enough to manage Palace . Its a very tough job at anytime and if you failed at Fulham, Coventry and Real Sociedad then that says it all. Yes well done with Wales but that's a perfect fit and he is probably very well suited to the demands of that role but not the EPL which even on a good day is ******* ruthless.

I remember when Palace were playing Liverpool at home and he was one of the pundits.

Presenters were talking about Liverpool's recent form and Coleman said: "Let's hope Liverpool get back to winning ways today" (or words to that effect)

Couldn't even bring himself to be impartial at a club he once play for.

No thanks.

That wasn't his last game was it? I thought it was a 0 4 defeat where both he and Richard Shaw played as though their feet were in concrete blocks. Both wanted away. F****** disgrace.

Edit: Checked records. Seems that was the reading game. Memory of game and their performance obviously more damaging to my psyche than reality

I don't particularly hold a grudge against him for the way he left. He is a poor club manager though and one inspired campaign with his country doesn't change that. He's exactly the sort of appointment Parish would make though, ex player etc. Except we seem to have another ex player who hasn't really cut it in management lined up already.

What is so poor about his club management record? It's hardly stellar.

Fulham; He was sacked on 10 April 2007, after Fulham went on a seven-game winless run.

Real Sociedad; With the club in 5th place and having only lost once in its previous eleven games, Coleman resigned as manager on 16 January 2008, citing a divergence in vision for the club with newly elected President Iñaki Badiola (there were also rumours that CC used to go missing regularly, leaving his staff to take training...also it was alleged that he was often found in his apartment in a drunken stupor when officials went to look for him.

Coventry City; On 4 May 2010, Coleman was sacked following Coventry's 19th-place finish during the 2009–10 season,[30] their lowest league finish in more than 45 years.

Larissa; On 26 May 2011, Coleman was appointed as manager of the Greek side . In January 2012, Coleman announced that because of financial troubles at the club he would be quitting from his position as manager

Ron enjoyed scouting and was decent at it - like most fans , but Ismael and Gabbidani ( apologies for the spelling) represented major failures given the level of expenditure.
