Asian World Cup qualifier
k.o 18.30 UK time

Key game for Saudi Arabia and Australia to decide who qualifies automatically for the World Cup.

After Australia beat Thailand earlier, Saudi Arabia have to win here to overtake them for 2nd place in Group B. The 3rd placed side plays off against 3rd side in Group A, winner then plays off against a Concacaf side.

Japan have already qualified, and have nothing to play for here, it doesn't necessarily mean an easy Saudi win though.

Saudi qualify with a win. Otherwise it's Australia. The country failing to qualify has a play-off against Syria, followed by another play-off against a Concacaf team.

A minority of Saudi and Australian nationals?

Japan certainly haven't started like a team who doesn't care about the result

So am I right in guessing the country failing to qualify (Australia) has a play-off against Syria, followed by another play-off against a Concacaf team?

Probably what we deserved in the end with the Saudis winning. Had a bucket load of chances against Thailand last night and only managed 2 goals. Not ruthless or clinical enough in front of the net.
Syria will be a cut throat game, that's for sure.

They're going to have to come out all guns firing if they're going to get something out of that game

Australia have to work a bit to get there this time.

Even beating Thailand in Melbourne the other day was a massive effort for them. They are a really poor side.

Hope Syria make it through, after what their country's been through. Good luck to them!

Actually Thailand were rather good and was thinking we could do with their defence!!! and, as for the 'Thai Messi' player,Chanathip Songkrasin, what a great little player... like a half pint sized Johnny Williams!! but man! exciting player https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSkW0ajS2mE. I want Australia to get through because I want to see the game keep growing in this country...its quite exciting to experience.

The games vs Australia have been Thailand's best games in this group.

4-0 defeat to Iraq. 4-0 defeat to Japan. 3-0 to Saudi. The two points they have came in draws with Australia and UAE. 3 of their 6 goals all campaign have been vs Australia. They seem to have worked out how to play against Australia - but no one else...

The best bit was when the Thai goalie carried the ball out of his area (even though he didn't..), ref lines up a free kick and the commentator says it's like facing the All Blacks.. the taker then balloons his kick way over the bar. You'd get points for that in rugby.

The problems seem to be away draws! Loads of dropped points against quite poor sides. I saw Oman vs Australia in Muscat about 4 years ago, and it was the same thing.. lots of running, not much action. Almost as if the team is happy to get through it and come home, but those points are the difference.

Still, I enjoy the A-League. Live in Brisbane, so the Roar are my local side.

I doubt it as they have Panama and Trinidad to play so should make top 3.

If they were in it surely Syria Vs USA would be the way forward, sit Trump and Assad next to each other!
