View Full Version : Are we the new Sunderland/Villa/Fulham/QPR?

There's always a team that's a basket case, that often flirts with relegation before an abject season to forget. Is that us this season, or the Hammers?

Derby as well, although I think we could end up with less points than the record low, typical it would be us to beat it

Fulham probably.

Flirting with relegation for a couple of seasons but pulling off miraculous results to save our skin. It catches up with you eventually

certainly does, this season will be our downfall because there are no more escape artists to call on, I wonder if the board never had the vision to realise that?

That's precisely what we're trying to avoid. Keep playing "backs to the wall, hit 'em on the break" football, whilst losing most of our matches at home, and our luck will eventually run out and we'll get relegated. It nearly happened last season, and if not for Sakho transforming our defense, we quite possibly would have gone down under Allardyce.

Whether De Boer can evolve the way we play while at the same time pick up enough points in the short-term to keep his job remains to be seen, but it's time we take the risk and try. Because it's not like we're messing with some wildly successful formula here - we're losing more home games each successive season and that's just not sustainable.

We will go down this season and we will lose Wilf, Benteke, Cabaye and Townsend at the end of it. But that's Palace and we will bounce back. This season has all the hallmarks of a disaster, just as long as we don't have a repeat of 97/98 then I will be happy.

We can hardly say we haven't been playing with fire over the last few seasons, we just haven't learnt from the mistakes.

I hate writing that but right now, there is not much hope.

I think we are in a better position than those teams if we do get relegated. We do actually have a lot of good players that would command big transfer fees and enable us to rebuild. I think if we were to sell Wilf, Sakho, Benteke, Townsend and Luka then we could expect to get the best part of £150m. If we could get MacArthur and Ward to sign new contracts then that would still leave us with a first eleven of Hennessy, Ward, Dann, Tomkins, Van Aarnolt, Schluup, Puncheon, McArthur, Williams, Kai Kai and Wickham.

No chance of that happening. We have far too much quality.

It depends on our home support - we are where we are but has Selhurst changed due to expectation levels? Mistakes have made and the recruitment looks questionable but the booing v Huddersfield was verging on toxic. If we get behind the team then we will be fine - we will know more v Southampton

Our current players, if set up correctly, are good enough to finish in mid table. Even under Holloway and 3 points after 10 games, you could see that we had the makings of a decent side. And this side is a lot better than that one.

Sunderland.

Lots of managerial changes, last minute survivals, lack of investment into the squad as a whole. Poor recruitment and planning going forwards, it's us in a nutshell.

We will have a season like QPR had. Dougie Feeedman will be our Chris Ramsey at some point this season. Down by Easter.

Actually think weve got a much better squad than Sunderland had. We are TWO players away from a comfortable mid table side. Sundrrland were 8 players away.

Yeah. Their average attendance last season was only 41,000.

Squad neglect and too many managerial changes make what's happening now seem inevitable, and has similarities with Villa and Sunderland.

But I'd like to think that the club as a whole is more ambitious than those two. I can't see the squad having the same poor attitude as Sunderland, which has been widely reported. But squad morale must be at an all time low at the moment, and cold get even worse in a couple of weeks with the fixtures coming up.

These things tend to be a momentum thing. Villa scraped by for a few season then they finally dropped, same for Sunderland.
I don't actually think things are as bad but we need some confidence back asap, a goal and a point at the very least against Soton.
Obviously if we lose 8 in a row we're stuffed regardless of how we perceive things behind the scenes.

We have kept our best players so cross Villa out Sunderland is a strange one DM should have been a good manager for them but he was so down from day one it sucked the life out of them. Fulham went for a management gamble and they lost so maybe we are in the Fulham camp. Get our best ten or eleven on the pitch and we will be fine our best nine is going to struggle like we are now.

Every year 1 or 2 of the three clubs that go down are in a self inflicted chaos- tith bonkers appointments, quick fire sackings and general disharmony at the club. Sunderland, Villa, QPR, Cardiff, Hull, Fulham, Newcastle have all dropped in recent years against a backdrop of madness. We are this seasons version for sure. Chaos at the club right now.

That's who we have become.

And a club that's soon going to be the 'hated' one by other fans.

A lot of big talk from board, appoint a manager then dont back him in the markets.

Night before say 'were in this together' and sack the manager in the morning after losing a game where we were the better side and unlucky to not score after that Wally decided to gift the home team a goal.

Then apparently look to employ someone who is so old he will need replacing in summer so the cavalcade of crap can start again.

Truly despair.

Roy would be on a two year contract. He is clearly a short term appointment so that a successor can be identified in the medium term with Roy's input.
