If the other candidates are Dougie Freedman, and Roy Hodgson, why not at least go for a highly regarded, upcoming manager like Michael O'Neill? He's done wonders with a limited squad at Northern Ireland, and would no doubt be interested in the job.

Surely a more sensible option than a failure and a dinosaur.

Agree. Would be an excellent choice. I really struggle to see why he isn't linked with more jobs in the PL, unless this is of course by his own choice.

The Premier League is no place for new or inexperienced managers (or indeed players) anymore. They get no time or patience, and the clubs, media and fans are all complicit in that.

If id invested that much with Northern Ireland, i would fancy staying on with the possibility of managing in the world cup finals.

Once in a lifetime opportunity.

Save the club career until after the world cup.

Has Parish heard of him?

Maybe in the summer if could have been considered, but now we need someone to come in quick and have some experience of managing in English football, if not the Premier League.

Spent a lot at Villa and Sunderland and they both ended up getting relegated. Not sure what the fuss is....

Surely speculation is pointless...it must have been decided already ?

Not that I have a view on O'Neil either way , so dont wanna shoot down the thread...but just think someone will be in before the weekend.

International football and club football are completely different anyway.

Wouldn't want to be O'Neills first attempt at proper club management.

Would rather be O'Neills first, than Hodgson's last...

We already took a gamble with De Boer, can't we play it safer this time?

Mind you he might sign Rooney from the prison XI.

I've long thought that he looks like an admirer of Brian Clough... shame as he's doing a great job with NI. Hope he can sort himself out.
