Will he go 4-4-2 ?

Will he drop local boy puncheon ?

What team will he pick

I reckon he will go with allardyces winning formation from last season and revert to a 4-1-4-1

if everyone is fit i reckon

Do you really have to use Woy? And no, he won't drop Punch as he is also a local boy.

There's no way he'll play wardy over TFM. Otherwise good team..

This 110%.

The team picks itself.

Bar Hennessey there's not one weakness there. Leicester in their title winning season had the same 11 most weeks so if we can be luckier with our injuries there's no reason why we can't comfortably get that 40 points we need.

Above for me. More emphasis on be solid at the back with space to break into going forward. Allows RLC to play higher up the pitch where hopefully he can have more influence distributing the ball out wide and through the middle.

It's not rocket science, really. As long as there's a back four with Milivojevic in front of it and two wingers that also track back, the rest is down to who is fit and in form.

ExiledStirling

Unfair.

Not easy executing a 60 yard back pass successfully. It is a difficult skill to master which is why we rarely see it.

bubbs11
12-09-2017, 08:11 PM
He's normally preferred a 4-4-2 but as been said, may have to change it because we're the only club in football history that has one striker :) Has adapted to other formations; sometimes played with a 4-4-1-1 at Fulham and a 4-2-3-1 at WBA, so that might work here.

He's a pragmatic manager in the Pulis and Allardyce mould. His Fulham and WBA teams were hard working and would put constant pressure on the opponents when out of possession. When in possession he prefers high tempo quick passing. He's very much into his teams shape which he drills endlessly into players on the training pitch and players are expected to quickly get back into their shape when they lose the ball.

Likes his pairs, so fullback and wingers on either flank team up to defend and attack together. Expects his wingers to help fullbacks defensively.

My guess at his preferred side when all fit will be:

---------------Hennessey-------------

Ward-------Dann-----Sakho---------Shlupp

-------------Luka----Cabaye------------

Zaha----------Loftus-Cheek-----Townsend

------------------Benteke----------

Loftus Cheek playing in the hole as a second striker but also extra midfielder.

Great team when everyone is fit. Suspect it'll be a lesser version until then, but the same 4-1-4-1. Not unhappy with that. More chance of the most round pegs in round holes every week.

This is the team that most people are going for. Hopefully we soon get to see this 11 on the pitch together. We saw what they did towards the end of last season and added in there are 2 quality players in RLC and TFM. That team is a mid table side at worst. Roy all you have to do is keep it simple, keep them fit and motivated and they will do the rest.

I think my main concern would've been defence - from his Fulham WBA days, I seem to remember him liking a compact back 4. Think Pulis-esque. He likes Martin Kelly from his Liverpool days - he took him to Euro 2012 & gave him his sole England cap. So I would've feared seeing Martin at RB & Ward at LB.

However, having said all of the above, he did the complete opposite at England & played the likes of Walker & Rose at full backs. I hope he sticks with this approach & it wasn't a case where he had to pick them as their form for Tottenham was so good. I think we all know that the way forward should be TFM & Schlupp either side of the centre halves.

The rest of the team does essentially pick itself. I would've worried about him playing 4-4-2 but us being totally inept at transfers has actually helped us out in that respect.

Seems that we are generally agreed on the best starting 11.

What do we think if Benteke gets injured or suspended (quite likely)? RLC to replace directly with Punch filling in?
God knows. Lapado? Zaha? Sako? Rlc? Dann? Sclhlup? Obviously Wickham when fit.

I think it'd have to be Wilf, surely?

Quite looking forward to Wilf up front occasionally. See if the midfielders can play a few balls along the floor, for him to run onto. Like Lee did.

But he hasn't. Couldn't drop Rooney

It'll be interesting to see he does that. Surely pressure from the FA over pressure from the board will be totally different and what does Hodgson have to lose here? He had a lot to lose with England if he dropped Rooney from the FA and the media alike.

He can't play 4-4-2 as we don't have two strikers. It will be very similar to the Sam team

The Sam team where he played 4-4-2 with Zaha and Benteke up front, and we beat Chelsea 2-1 away from home?

I would like to see Wilf up front with Benteke if we go 4-4-2. Cabaye is on record as saying he prefers 4-4-2. How about something like:

-----------------------Hennessey------------------------------------
TFM----------Dann------------------Sakho-------------Schlupp
Townsend----RLC-------------------Cabaye------------Sako
---------------Benteke---------------Zaha-------------------------

Personally I'd rather go 4-3-3 and play the extra central midfielder, but I desperately want to see Wilf further up the pitch. I really like him there.

In all fairness they should have won with ease but a great win. As long as Wilf is on the pitch we have a better chance of winning.

I hope he doesn't play PvA at Lb, as he really cannot defend. He is decent on the bench as a backup and as an attacking left sided midfielder.

But obviously, as FdB found out, not as part of a 5-3-1 or 3-5-1 (however you configure it) which would surely give him the licence to get forward?

Hennessy
Ward Tomkins Dann Van Aanholt
Townsend Cabaye Milivojevic Loftus-Cheek Zaha
Benteke

That would require Tomkins to recover super quick from the injury he picked up against Swansea.

I would caution against bringing Zaha back too soon....if he injures himself again, which is more likely if he comes back to soon without any practice games, he could be out for a longer period....imagine if he gets an injury like Bolasie

Wilf out wide or upfront is irrelevant. He has the pace and movement to go where he wants. Keep him out wide with license to roam.

He is not in my best eleven. Been a very good player for us but has been targeted as a weak link and has proved to be just that. FDB could have been part of Wards problem but i am not so sure.

I hope Roy doesn't fall into the trap that he feels he has to play Punch to appease the supporters.

Punch represents everything that is CPFC, but I fear new managers could anticipate a supporter backlash if our local lad gets dropped.

Just don't want Roy to get mixed signals regarding Punch. Every Palace fan wants him to regain his form, but it's ok for him to be rested.
