I posted elsewhere that I quite fancy Murphy but that's based on how he talks, played and his relationship with Roy etc. I don't know how good a coach he is. Which is why I added to that post that it was irrational. The rest of thought being that he is then groomed if he does well to takeover Management while Roy replaces DF as SD. I like the model for whoever is Coach but it assumes we/Roy can pick a good future Manager. But dreaming really. I would be intrigued to know how good Murphy is .

That was my guess too. Gary worked for Roy with Ray Lewington in the England set-up for nearly four years. Of course, he has his coaching badges and I would think he would like another attempt after Valencia. Being only 42, he will balance the ages of Roy and Ray.

Andy Johnson surely. Ticks both the "Former Palace" and "Involved with England" boxes, and is available.

But in all honestly, it will probably be Gary Neville, you will all moan about it just like you moaned about Big Sam, and then you'll come around to him when they deliver results. We are all blind when it comes to fandom, and you'll stop hating him as soon as he puts on a Palace top. It happened with me and Ian Holloway (couldn't stand him when he was manager for QPR), and it will happen to you.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Gary Neville, with one eye on him taking over the reigns in a couple of years. If we were ever going to take a punt on a young promising manager in the hope he'll stay and build something long term, then that would be the safest way to do it.

With,Roy Hodgson being 70,it would make sense to have a Younger Coach in the set-up in Preparation to Succeed.

Neville, like Giggs and Murphy, is one of life's talkers. None of them would fancy it - too much like hard work.

Here's a thought - hows about some obscure bloke who has never played in the Prem, let alone for a marquee club, but happens to be a brilliant coach ?

Best and most experienced 1st team coach we could possibly have with job security,
if RH gets the bullet, Steve "local and long term Palace fan"can takeover as Manager.

Come on Steve show us how it is done ,because if you are successful you can save us a fortune in payoffs to sacked Managers!

Firstly, are we in the market for a Coach? i see names like Murphy and Gary Neville being mentioned, but can't see them giving up lucrative tv contracts for the uncertainty of CPFC a pity as they could be excellent candidates. But won't happen.
What we need is a track suited youngish person who can be the "legs" for Roy on the training pitch and the person who could well be the one is Phil Neville.
What he brings is experience at the highest playing level not that many years ago, worked as a coach for Everton so experienced in that role in the premiership what is required, plus the added bonus can update the manager on current players we could be in for in January, and importantly seems to have the right attitude to get on with players, vital today.
So for me fits the bill perfectly and would be my First choice.

The worrying thing for me is how Roy talks about 'cant wait to get involved with the coaching again, that's my strength'. If he was coming in as an overseer, like Coppell used to do, i'd be far more optimistic. Seems he sees his strengths in the day-to-day coaching. Maybe Lee knew that the control over this he had with SA was up, and walked. All just supposition, but still i find it a concern.
