Today was the first time since promotion we didnt play one player from our promotion winning team.

In fact the further we get away from it the shitter we have become.

Coincidence? Or is/was team spirit and unity massively underestimated?

That was 5 years ago, and not one of them has got any better.

Most of the players still at the club from the promotion season played in the worst team in a calendar year, not sure we are much worse than that now tbf

Bolasie , Zaha , Murray, Speroni . Even Phillips is better than no striker

so we shouldn't have improved the squad when we got promoted? Or we shouldn't have sold any of the players who Got us up? Or maybe we should be picking players based on their form 5 years ago and age - oldest first!

This was the crux of the question and has been avoided in all the responses.

It's all very well and good comparing individuals on a one-on-one basis but in terms of team spirit and unity, I think the current squad seems hugely inferior. A large part of this was probably because the promotion side had something to prove whereas I often get the feeling with a number of the current squad that they already think they are good Premier League standard players. As individuals, some of them are. As a team, they are currently proving otherwise.

Wouldn't argue with him playing instead of Hennessey

Only because Hennessey is an absolute disaster

Can we not just accept that we played a team that have spent hundreds of millions and are far better than us, and most the league. It was the best team out today and I hope we would put out the same team out next week (although clearly Benteke is injured now). We expected a hiding and we got it.

Zaha would have played if he wasn't injured.

Jedinak

Jedinak was a Palace hero and a leader but in the end he wasn't good enough to play in PL, I remember when he left he was poor when he played and happy he went to try somewhere else because he is a good guy. He was at the time worse than Joe Ledley coming on.

OK, we'll forget the other 5 games, then.

Zaha will save us again. Let's face it, he carried our promotion team. POTY two years in a row. I'd be tempted to play Dann up top with him and Tomkins alongside Sakho

We'd never have been promoted without Murray. Letting him go was a ******* stupid decision.

Agree, using Dann up front with Tomkins at the back seems our best choice!

Why do we need a big man up top? RLC, Sako or even Jordan Mutch would be better options. FdB doing a Dowie was really concerning.

I love Jedi, but let's be honest he's hardly been pulling up trees since we sold him. Murray is a good championship striker but again, hasn't shown he can cut it in the premiership since he left.

Our problem is a lack of depth, probably due to marquee signings like benteke and sakho. Not signing a striker and keeper in the summer will prove to be a costly mistake. Niasse scored two today. We are yet to score.

Will never understand why we sold ramage. Better than Dann in my opinion.

Missing point.

No aruging on paper we are far far superior now.

However with the likes of Delaney, Gabbidon, KG, Jedi and Murray in the side we got better results.
