Thats what I thought, it was after some fairly aggressive tactics from the Bromley players.

It's only a story because the Mirror have made it into one by adding 'in a desperate attempt to win a game'. That's not it, I bet it's about practising playing in a certain formation. Good idea.

Yes. Other oldies will remember a similar situation back in 1980/81, when we dropped like a stone right from the off and became the nations favourite joke. You'd hear our club name used by comedians on Saturday night tele to get a laugh.

We are not quite at this juncture yet, but we sure need to make something happen soon or else the next 8 months will be unbearable.

I imagine they'll basically want a competitive defence for attacking understanding.

Wouldn't surprise me if it's dann and rlc together as per first man city. That looked good with benteke

At least Roy is trying things. But I hope there's not too much tinkering with the team at 3pm in Old Trafford. We already have to shuffle the pack with TFM not able to play and Benteke injured. Roll on 21st October!

The most prevalent line being "What is the difference between Crystal Palace and a triangle ?" if I remember correctly ...

Yes that's right - remember that one. Sure I recall Eric Morecombe casually taking the mick one evening too.

Stuff like that hurt a young 8 year old fan you know. Lord knows why I persisted with the Palace and not flee like a lot of my mates to the bragging comfort of Liverpool or Man Utd. I like to think it's because fundamentally I'm a loyal sort; I suspect however, it's because I'm a bit stupid and a glutton for punishment.

Our away record that season (80/81) was 3 draws, no wins and the rest were defeats. 1-1 draw away at FA Cup finalists Man City last game was amusing. Only 100 of us went and we did a conga round the away end when we equalised!

Early seventies with consecutive relegations from 1st to third...that was character building for a young supporter.

That was just the nonsense spin given by the tabloids.

I think it was mentioned elsewhere that Roy wanted to work on certain formations and felt he needed something more match-like than inter-squad matches.

Probably necessitated by the loss of Benteke and he needs to work on a new system to support a very different type of player up top.

We tried to watch it nearer
Security lady said it was fine but she was radioed and told to move us,not even letting academy players watch...

sensible move. Don't want any of the youngsters picking up this lots' bad habits.

To keep our confidence high we will now be playing Sutton United on Friday night :D

That might not be a good idea - Sutton are flying atm.

2-1 finish but their two keepers had to do some great saves

Blimey they had 2 keepers? Against Palace? Thought they wouldn't have needed any:D

Maybe a few u23 but other academy guys were getting turned away, I was surprised, the kids were telling me how Charlton first team mix with academy etc but palace under pardew don't, mad that we have huge area for second pitch that's not even marked out yet academy have to play elm lane or goals if they lucky

Does this mean that the scouts from any other clubs can watch our training sessions / drills in the lead up to games (if they feel they needed to!)?

Because that is his level.

The match against Bromley seemed a pointless exercise, with a positive outcome not really likely.

A bit like our league form , :D

Let's hope Roy has learned some more about the squad

Probably for the best at the moment, one of them might nutmeg Damo and he'll get upset.
