Available on a Free. Given our lack of a striker if Benteke is out for a sustained period we could do a lot worse. Ex Italian International. Knows where the goal is and handy in the air too.

Good idea, but you know what we are like. No chance we will sign him.
If they had any kind of proper plan wouldn't be in this mess. Now that we are will they do anything about trying to sign some out of contract players ... we both know the answer to that.

So we are getting (actually) pissed off about the club doing something that it hasn't done yet? Righty ho.

Gilardino is clearly the best option out of very slim pickings. Yes it is utterly ridiculous that we are even in this situation but no amount of words or re-emphasisng just how much we dropped the ball is going to change the situation.

The anger needs to start making way for pragmatism and even hope. Otherwise you are doomed to 8 more months of misery. Football, however much we like it, is not worth 8 months of misery.

Been training with Montreal Impact to keep in shape apparently.

Was capable of scoring 10 goals a season ago, although only got 1 goal in the cup in 19 appearances last season with two clubs.

He seems to not be that injury prone looking at his career stats, which has got to make him worth signing on it's own.

I doubt we would look at him inside a transfer window, but a short term deal might benefit us both. We don't have many decent choices but we do have 12 matches. We don't want to be striker-less all season.

Yes, completely agree. His legs are on the way out, he's unlikely to make anything himself but he's been training regularly at least. The brain will not lose the instinct to be in the right positions at the right time.

Short term deal and lets hope Zaha, RLC & Townsend can supply something from Newcastle onwards.

11 goals in 34 games in 2015/16. Ok last season doesn't make pretty reading but he made a handful of appearances for two pretty shit clubs (Empoli and Pescara) who ended up getting relegated.

He's not going to bag us 20 goals but he might make a nuisance of himself and actually make some runs to hopefully at least get a couple, or create something for others which we have been lacking all season so far.

It's a big yes from me if both Gila and us are interested in the deal until the Summer.

Free Agent, seemingly we have made contact and apparently Napoli were considering him. So he can't be that bad.

Nicola Ventola retired years ago. Injuries just plagued his career and then he was embroiled in a match fixing thing and just called it a day in 2011 because of injuries. I know he was often called injury prone but to be fair during his spell for us he broke his ankle and that was his only real injury. He could have done a job for us if that hadn't happened. His finish against Southampton showed he had real quality.

Why not? at this moment we are desperate for a striker and he can score goals, this has occured because we have been put in this position by poor decision making by Steve Parish's and His reluctance to do what He did when HE made the decision to bring in Sakho, so why not a striker? we now have no alternative but to take what is thrown at us.

A bit harsh on the club re scaring people off imho. I think it's just a pragmatic decision on his part. Coming here involves moving country to play a couple of games in a side that from the outside must surely look doomed, before falling down the pecking order as others become fit and probably spending the second half of the season playing u23 football at best.

I can totally see why going to a second tier club in your home country to (presumably) be seen as part of the first team squad all season would appear a much more attractive option
There has been plenty to question the club about over the past few months, but I don't see anything here beyond a player towards the end of his career making a rational decision about his future.

Maybe you were not understanding? let me explain again, i was referring to our urgent need for a back up striker Before the window shut.
Clearly SP had already made up his mind to fire FdB and started making decisions on any transfers himself as in the case of Sakho signing, on that basis knowing a Striker should have been the number 1 priority he should have taken on that responsibility himself to make that vital signing, especially if he knew he would be sacking FdB.
By not doing so has left us in the striker mess we are now in.

Are we even trying to sign a striker? Is there an evidence that shows we are trying as I thought the last I heard was from Steve Parish was 'this is where we are and what we've got. We've just got to get through until January'.

Then the bloke is a ******* idiot if true.

Why release that young 'keeper then?

I thought Dougie was "turning over stones"?

Maybe the link with this guy came from a journalist seeing the BBS thread?

Was probably the best option on a shitty list.

Signed a 2 year deal. Could have been the clincher?

Can't see why we wouldn't give him a 2 year deal. Would be good to have his experience in the dressing room.

No idea but I did read we offered him a deal until next Summer.

He stated that on HOL radio last week i think, but Roy Hodgson says Dougie Freedman is "Working Hard" to find someone, in the press conference pre-man utd

Its a desperate signing anyhow, he is unfit, aged and without experience in the PL, to give him an 18 month deal is a waste when he probably wont be good enough. A MLS team passed on him and has ended up in Serie B, yes we are desperate but that doesnt mean sign anyone.

Amazing people think we're actually going to sign someone

I am starting to think this. You leave a space in the squad and generally fill it in a week or two at the most.

So...

Lambert would rather retire than join us.
Gilardino would rather sign for a 2nd tier Italian side that nobody on planet Earth has heard of than sign for us.
