Covered the U17s during the EUROs in Croatia earlier this year. They have a good team. Sancho and Foden two great players.

Why will chile winning please you?

Because I have lived here for 15 years, married to a Chilean and I have Chilean kids and grandkids. I have also been to as many Chile games as England games.

I gave up on England when England disappointed in 2002, as losing that QF against 10 men Brasil without creating a chance for the last 30 minutes showed what a bunch of bottlers they were.

I support teams where players give their all - and are not going through the motions waiting for their agents to secure a 50k a week pay rise.

a few thoughts

1) If the senior team played with this passion and ruthlessness, we could do something on the world stage

2) We need to get kirby to the senior team asap. His touch and vision are already a step above any of our healthy attacking options. Can't understand how Kaikai, Lokilo and Lee are head of him

Kirby is a centre-mid. He needs to bulk up before he can play senior football.

He scored the winner against Ecuador. A tad more than any England player did against Iceland when it mattered.

But still all to play for tomorrow.

may be his natural position but i've seen him play outside with the U23s.

my point is that he is at a different technical level than a majority of our squad players. To see some other players make the bench ahead of him is just wrong and could hurt us if we asks to leave.

With the successes of the England youth set ups this year, was wondering if we're finally reaping the fruits of the football media explosion in England in the 90's?

A pretty flimsy assumption, but after 1990 World Cup, Sky's wall to wall coverage from 93 and then Euro 96, you wonder whether this has generated more interest in children. And with top football being so accessible with a flick of a button, maybe the kids are getting more clued up tactically and technically than generations before? Maybe producing a better class of coaches now too?

Just hearing Stuart Pearce talk last night, the one thing that has shocked him this summer in all the tournaments has been the technical abilities of the English kids that look more like something you'd see from the Spanish or Italians.

Are we seeing the end of our good traditional English cloggers?

Only if they get a chance to play first team football at the clubs they have been brought through. No point the likes of Chelsea sending them all on loan from 18 onwards and spending 100m in pursuit of the latest title.

There is certainly something about having the highest potential players having access to the best coaching. But then if you take Brewster and Kirby, they both left their clubs (Chelsea and Spurs) to join other clubs (Liverpool and Palace) where they thought they would have a better chance of playing.

This isn't correct, not in the case of Kirby anyway.

He was playing for the Spurs academy. Chelsea tried to poach him and he even turned out for one of their games. He told Spurs he wanted to move. Spurs blocked it and threatened to report Chelsea for tapping up, something they have been guilty of many times in the past, and they backed off and cancelled the transfer.

He was then a free agent, went on trial to various clubs including Arsenal, and signed for Palace.

Indeed, Kirby didn't sign for Palace simply because he thought he had a better chance of playing games.

Brewster was released by Chelsea, along with Eddie Nketiah at Arsenal.

I find it interesting that a lot of the players come from the bigger clubs.

I'm not sure why, but I thought they would come from lower league teams.

I say this because the big clubs tend to buy their 1st team from all over the world. It would appear they have decent academies purely because they can, and offer the best facilities... it would not seem to be to feed their first team.

I guess this is a sort of good thing.

Sort of, but it does and increasingly will polarise things. The big boys have the best academies because they can afford to and the result is they get the better players who get the best coaching.

How many of these will make the Chelsea or City first teams? Very few. However, how many of these will end up playing regular PL or Championship football? Quite a few - indeed a number may play abroad.

Remember we presently have Chelsea and Man U academy grads RLC and TFM on loan who are in the first team squad. Clearly they're better than anyone we have in our academy, or they'd be playing.

Huddersfield have recently downgraded their academy. One assumes they've taken the view that it's better value to buy a grad from someone else's academy than have the cost of a full Cat I themselves.

It's why Chelsea have 50 plus players on their books. Better academy. They won't all make the first team, but there will be willing purchasers because of the training they've undergone.

This seems like part of their business plan. They have no intention of bringing these players through. It's a farm. Buy cheap, develop, sell a few years later.

I beg clubs give these a chance. The talent is there.

we should be very proud of our youth. Think the FA deserve credit as well with St George's Park, makes you wonder what the age groups behind them are like
