Australia and Peru have the advantage in the home games to come.

The only defence the ref can have is that he gave handball against Italy so couldn't give the foul and the pen. He was wrong mind you

Sorry, 25 shots. And they fail. Mental.

Bit harsh to fail to qualify with 23 points from 10 games. Italy, Spain, Albania, Israel, Macedonia and Lichtenstein in that group. Seems a bit of an odd group, really. One of two Europe's major teams guaranteed to need the playoffs. Not that I mind to see a big team failing, of course, far from it. But it seems a little unfair when you look at some of the other groups where there's clearly only one 'major' team in there.

Buddy Holly was still alive

Actually playing at the World Cup one last time would’ve been a proper farewell, not being a member of the first Italian team not to qualify in god knows how long. Wouldn’t say “worried” either, he’s just the only Italian I care somewhat about.

Not sure anyone's actually worried about him, but it is a shame not to have him and Italy at the WC. Big loss to the competition.

The irony being I have liked Italy and their national team since 1994... Why? Because England didn't qualify for the World Cup and that is who I wanted to win instead.

Not a great day but they will rise again. The coach was well out of his depth. My Italian friend hates him, said he is the worst thing to happen to the national team long before last night.

That and being in the group with Spain. LOL

They were in the second pot for the draw because they played about 20 friendlies and only won about 5 and as a result their world/ euro ranking dropped below the level needed to go into the top pot for the euro section of the world cup draw. According to somebody on talk sport England were the team who benefitted, so it could have been us in this position

Also if you play 10 substitutes then it doesn't count as a proper match for co-efficient points which is what Italy should have done more often.

So yes it was Italy's fault or more exactly the Italian FA's fault and having a poor team / coach

I don't necessarily think the team is that bad. It's just old and they don't really have a style of play or formation. They have very good players but Ventura never really got a settled team and bizarrely never played Insigne who has been on form for ages.

Assuming you're talking about Serie A,it has some very attacking sides at the moment and a lot of very good games.I'm hoping to catch some of the Rome derby this weekend after the Palace game as I think it could be a cracker. The quality is high and it's entertaining,of course people would watch it if it was free to air.

IF he has done his cruciate it will definitely have scuppered a deal. Won't be able to do a deal January and he is unlikely to be back playing in time for a deal in the summer either.

You would hope we might have sorted ourselves out finally by Jan 2019!

Is it wrong?

For my 25th anniversary of working as a contractor a year or two ago, I was given a load of Italian memorabilia from the CEO who is Italian as a piss-take....I have now created a mug with the England crest then the world cup logo, then the Italy badge crossed out with Micheal's world cup mug....I could be unemployed soon ;)
