Q: Why is the Palace club badge incorporated into a stained-glass window in St Francis' Church, Dudley?
It's a memorial to Duncan Edwards/Munich 58 and Palace were one of the clubs to help set it up. Brentford was another I believe.

Damn. That was easier than I expected. Correct. It's Edwards' local church and he's buried in the grounds.
Brentford were the only other club included in the memorial. Both clubs were the only ones who donated to the cost after an appeal. A fact that Cantona-era, hate-fueled United fans would do well to remember.

I thought you may come up with an answer. Your names are of course correct, well done telodaja. And also to be honest I forgot about Paul Stewart. I did not have George Graham as I believe it was Eddie Kelly's goal. Steve McKenzie was the player who never played a first team game. There are still 3 players, they all scored along time ago one between the wars and two before the first one. I will see if anyone can find them from any books, before I give their names.

Don't wish to be a pedant (well, actually I do!) but strictly speaking the first attendance record at Selhurst Park was, obviously, set in the first match - 25000 against Sheffield Wednesday. It is true that subsequently in that season, the recorded attendance for the Postsmouth match on Boxing Day was also 25,000, but as such it means that one didn't "beat" our attendance record. ;)

Attendances in the years up to 1925 (when official ones began to appear) is a real 'can of worms' for us anoraks!.
Reports then were mainly 'guestimates' I suppose, I have three reports for The Wednesday game, one says 30,000, another 20,000 and the third 25,000.
With regard to the Portsmouth game I have a note of an attendance of 24,229.

And our opening game in the old first div against United. The Man U fans broke a gate down at the Whitehorse end and hundreds, if not thousands poured through. With turnstile fiddles, and club tax fiddles I'm sure there was a few games at Selhurst when more than 60,000 were actually in the ground.

I certainly didn't, I was only eleven years old and my mates dad who was a copper on duty that day sneaked us in, we were right down the front of the Holmesdale, eventually kids were allowed to sit pitch side of the barrier to avoid crushing.

If we are going for lowest League attendance it has to beat the 2,165 that saw Palace v Newport County in December 1935.
(Have just seen BBJ's last post sent as I was composing this so it's not the lowest required. 2,165 for a Football League game, the 896 was a wartime game)

On Dec 3 1947 they played Newcastle in a league match at Selhurst before a recorded crowd of 30,000. The Den was closed because of anti social behaviour. Then on Aug 28th 1948 they played Palace at Selhurst before a crowd of 30,556

Now we've had the answer, I've looked the above up to see if my memory was askew. But unusually, it wasn't. Wimbledon had the lowest ever Premier League attendance, when their match against Everton at Selhurst Park on 26/1/93 was attended by just 3039 fans - it's a record that's unlikely ever to be broken. I can't be bothered to look up Wimbledon's other attendances that season, but you can almost guarantee they had already beaten the previous lowest Premier League attendance in an earlier game.
So a good question would have been what Premier League attendance record was beaten twice in a year at Selhurst Park by the same team. I could have kept that going for ages. Sadly, if I ask it now you'd all know the answer :(

Nigel Martyn and Dave Martin ?
Name two Palace players with different surnames that actually mean the same thing
Well it's not Payne & Glazier (though both are a nice coincidence to our roots).
Both doing a Silkman and having a Harkouk are commonly used terms in the South London Underworld referring to the forging and distribution of precisely $25,000 USD.
Now that I've cleared that one up ( :D ) what was the official birth date of Crystal Palace Football and Athletics Club in 1905 (not when we played our first game - as we all know that was the day before the 3-4 loss to Southampton Reserves) but when the Company was officially established.

Nigel Martyn and Dave Martin ?
Not what I was thinking. These are different spellings of the same word/name.
The ones I am thinking of are the different words that mean the same.

Ian Wright and Keith Smith (as in wheelwright and blacksmith)? Probably not but the best I could do.

Given that Jack is used as a nickname for John, is it Jackson and Johnson?

Sorry none of the above are right. PK had the right idea with Fan & Ventola.
If we had ever signed Stefan Schwarz, he and Tommy Black would have been another example.
The players I am thinking of are both from this century.
