So, one more season and then MOTD will once again disappear from our screens of a Saturday night. Bit of a shame.

How long before the rules are changed so that football is played in 4 15-minute quarters to satisfy television requirements? I'll give it 10 years max.

The Beeb certainly are going on about losing the jewel in their crown but I have a suggestion.

Presumably, now that ITV have won the deal for Premier League highlights on Saturdays and Sundays, they will no longer be interested in showing "Nationwide League Extra" at ridiculous times on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings (1.00 a.m. and about 3.00 a.m. usually).

So, logically, why don't the Beeb buy the rights to the forgotten League and then they could pitch Wolves v Birmingham or Blackburn v Sheffield Wednesday directly against Bradford v Charlton or Southampton v Leicester.

Plus, BBC viewers could actually have a chance to watch the kids who are the future of football in this country in the only league where they will be able to get a game.

Come on BBC, you know it makes sense.

One final point. Aren't NTL the people who've been buying a stake in all those Premier League clubs? How does that work then? The people who have a stake in some of the clubs get to select who gets shown live on pay-per-view (and therefore receive extra revenue presumably). That stinks.

Yeah Gooders youre right- plus the Beeb would cover the Nationwide better than ITV ever could.
