Bent Hits Out At Francis Slur
Marcus Bent has been left fuming by what are seen as almost libellous slurs against him by piggy reject manager Trevor Francis.
Neil Warnock claims that he has rejected a recent bid from Birmingham for big bad Marcus which consisted of a swap for out of favour pair Dele Adebola and Paul Furlong plus a sizeable cash amount. Jasper Carrott look alike Francis on the other hand, insists it is he who pulled out of the deal, despite United being keen, because Bent had failed a ‘personality check’.
Now obviously a manager must look at how any potential signing will fit in with his current squad, but where do you get these personality checks done? Bent has understandably reacted angrily to this news, and fired a broadside back claiming that he wouldn’t want to move to another First Division club anyway. It seems that as usual, Mr Francis seems unable to comprehend that anyone could reject the chance of a move to the ‘mighty’ Birmingham and now has even gone so far as to publicly brand it a character deficiency.
Neil Warnock has opened negotiations with Bent regarding a one-year extension to his current contract, which would keep him at the club until 2003. Despite initial reports that Bent’s demands were out of reach of the club, Bent himself has publicly pledged his future to the Blades, claiming that he is happy at the club and is in no hurry to leave. Neil Warnock is keen to tie the 22 year old down to a longer contract and it is thought that the two are now not a million miles away from an agreement, which will be a relief to Blades fans as they consider the prospect of a Bent Suffo partnership
