You're both talking jibberish. Melbourne Storm will be going back to back.

Its that time of year in Oz, when they have there rugby league play offs. Who should I put my money on, the Brisbane Boncos, or the Cronulla Sharks?

I'd stake the house I live in on the Broncos, Tom...but I don't think my landlady would be very happy...

Who Skid Row? Might have to put the money on the Broncos.

If you were in a real sporting city Tom you'd know exactly who I was talking about. The Storm drew with the Broncos in Brisbane, a game they should have won and then defeated them down here. As I said BACK TO BACK.

I have noticed that the Storm are quoted at 6/1 mate.

P.S Hows yourself doing playing AFL this season at club level?

Skid Row

Not good. I did my ac joint in a practice match in late march and didnt play again until late april. Havent really looked like getting a kick either but thanks for asking anyway pal.

Eh, skid row, which club, pal?

I play for Seville philaire. Out in the Yarra Valley if you hadnt heard of them like most people havent. We're one of the teams who play against Warburton-Millgrove who Nicky Winmar now plays for.

Seville, famous place, squire. Actually have tasted a Seville Estate red in past times. How did you get on away to Wandin last Saturday?

Skid Row
27-07-2000, 02:36 AM
How the hell did you know we played Wandin??? We won by 6 goals at Wandin but they had a few out, like Andy Goodwin for one, which certainly helped. In the results section of the Sun they had us winning by six goals but there was also a little write up saying than Wandin consolidated 2nd position with a six goal win. We may have found the Australian Teamtalk.

philaire

Yes, Teamtalk has set a pretty enviable standard but the Herald-Sun can be inconsistent - but at least they publish the results. I looked up the YVMDFL website to find a little more about the league. Finals coming up soon? And how's Winmar coping with the new surroundings?

Skid Row
27-07-2000, 03:32 AM
One of my teammates works on that site, cant say I've ever been there. Finals in 4 weeks, we should be playing Monbulk. Couldnt tell you how Winmar is coping but I do know he was involved in a fight at a pub with one of his teammates. I'm sure he must be enjoying it or otherwise he wouldnt still be there.

Your ground will be a little boggy after the rain this week? Re Monbulk, I used to play soccer against them (believe their pitch was just opposite the footy ground) and they always had a struggle with their playing surface.

Skid Row

Our ground is the worst ground in the league. They call it the potato chip because that's what it's shaped like. All the water runs from the top of the hill and just sits down the bottom side, quite depressing. The soccer ground is on the opposite side of the road to the footy ground, cant say I've ever noticed it though.

Sounds like some of the pitches back home Skid

Skid Row

I'd be very suprised Tom if any football pitches in the world were shaped like our home ground. If you saw it you'd laugh.

Sorry to disagree but i think Brisbane will win it. From what i have seen over here in UK with the Foz games shown i think it will be hard for anyone to stop them.I go to the London Broncos occasionally( Alright i know it is at the Gypos place)and they have looked to ahve signed a couple of good players for next year.Jason Hetthrington is quality and has Tony Martin learned to ride his bike properly yet(just joking) By the way if anyone from CPFC Is reading this do us a favour and sign up the London Broncos Cheerleaders up.Our cheerleaders were recruited by Gary Glitter werent they??

Neil, this started as a ruby league section. As for the Cronulla Sharks as they got struffed yesterday by Penrith, I think they have no chance.,

Don't hold out much hope for the Storm this time around.

Can we keep the arial ping pong off the net. Tom I think you may have ta wait until next season to see the Sharks in action again.Put your house (or Hostel) on Brisbane.

You're making a fool of yourself interested. You may call it aerial ping pong to try and make fun of this great game but it is so much more exciting and skillful than rugby league it's not funny. What skills do you need to have to play rugby? You need to know how to throw a ball, pretty darn easy but it does take real skill to throw it backwards a bit. You need to know how to run real fast into a lot of other people who are trying to stop you. You need to know how to put the ball on the ground and roll it backwards with your foot. You need to know a little bit on how to kick which noone does and how to catch the ball which noone does. Netballers catch balls better than most rugby league players. You Sydney people can bag Australia's national game as much as you want but it's still the greatest.
Friday 21st July, round 20, MCG, Carlton vs Essendon, 2nd vs 1st. Essendon victors. Crowd 91,571. I bet that the total of all the rugby league games just beat that crowd. Need I say more!

Apologies for changing the subject (ball), but do any of you guys follow the fortunes of Victorias’ soccer team? I had a mate who went out to Aus. and I believe he may have played for Victoria (he was certainly good enough).

His name is Paul Harris. Thinking about it, he would probably have retired two or three years ago. Anybody remember him?

Victoria's got a soccer team????

tomario
01-08-2000, 07:58 AM
Yes Skid, they are called South Melbourne, Carlton, etc.

As for the Sharks Joe, your probably right, though the Broncos took a bit of a tonking last week, and I would have to put my house on it now..

I know that much Tomario, I'm not completely stoopid you know. When I read Slimbloke 'H's post it reads to me as if he's saying there is a Victorian soccer side, not meaning the 3 teams Victoria has in the NSL.

Skid row is on the right track. Victoria used to have a semi-regular state team, which used to be assembled primarily for the purpose of playing touring club sides. I can remember for example Victoria hammering AEK Athens 4-0 in the early 80s. Very occasionally they used to play other state teams. However, during the 90s the state teams were assembled much less regularly, and the practice now is for the national team to front up against the "major" touring club sides (eg. Man U, Juventus) and for the national league teams (eg South Melbourne, Carlton) to occasionally front up for lesser touring club fixtures.

Having said all that, Slimbloke'H', I can't recall a player called Paul Harris in recent years. He may have played for for a Victorian state league team, and perhaps for a quasi-representative team to play against the national team in a warm-up fixture.

Hi guys,

I would have followed this up earlier, but I seem to have been monty busy this last few days. Apologies for my (lack of) knowledge on footie down under, but the impression I had, was that my old mate Paul did play at State level, but if none of you guys recall the name, it would suggest that I am wrong, and perhaps he played in Victoria rather than for Victoria!!

Thanks for giving it some thought anyway!!
