Especially river fishing, peace, quiet, coutryside, scrambing around on river banks trying to sneak up on those pesky trout, NO MOBILE PHONE! Am I on my own here?

I'll get my pheasant tailed nymph.

TAK - you are getting confused. "Cottaging" is the gentleman's sport. Fishing you do on a river or in the sea.

Cottaging? Isn't that something to do with Foolham or maybe George M?

Trying to sneak up on those pesky barbel, much more enjoyable. Bluddy trout, they just get in the way!!

Another one here guys, i've been at it for nearly 30 years. Just been voted in as Chairman of the British Float Tube Association!.

Slimbloke 'H', I was a barbel nut in my younger years. Indeed so sad was I that I have records showing date/time/temp/weather coditions/etc/etc for all 1036 barbel that i've caught to datehttp://www.cpfc.org/ubb/embarass.gif.

In the last couple of years i've tried to combine the two by catching barbel on the fly but with no luck to date. Ton's of bloody chub but no whiskers.

Never been fly fishing; I much prefer to be five miles off the Queensland coast on a sunny day with lovely deep blue water all around. A couple of mackeral or tuna and a few reef fish make a perfect day. Well worth getting up for at 4am. While the rest of you are sampling the delights of Crewe in December I shall (barring cyclones) be suffering at least three times a week on the ocean, followed by an afternoon of watching the cricket while sampling Dad's excellent home brew.

I'm a member of Tease anglers and owners, we've got 7 miles of river near Goudhurst and Horsmonden, down Tonbridge way. Lovely bit of the world, I go whenever I can.

Bobmatt and Blind, I can take the odd guest if you fancy a Sunday by the river or a scive off work one afternoon.

Neat, years ago my p.b. came from the Tease just above Bahyam Abbey. I'd love to meet up and give it a go.

Blind Eagle,

Why regard yourself as sad for keeping accurate records? - I do too, and consider and it most sensible. By the sound of it my barbeling exploits are definitely second division in comparison, but I do believe that keeping records helps.

In view of the need for some relaxation after a hard weeks work I thought I would reactivate this thread to bring it to the attention of weekend posters, you never know we may find more flyfishermen (or women) than golfers. Ha. Ha.

(time to go to Wycombe now)

Have been fly-fishing three times now and finally caught a beautiful Rainbow (3lb).
Wonderful feeling, took a surprising amount of effort. I am very privileged to have a friend who is a member of a club on the Test just north of Romsey, peace and quiet and a very tasty fish to boot. Magnificent !
