I beleive that the draw for quarters tonight on SKY sports 2 after the end of the remaining ties.
Qtrs are one leg ( extra time and pens if necessary). Semis are home and away.

No, but you don't sound too good. Could be coming down with a cold that may turn into flu in a couple of weeks.

Nah, Chelsea at Selhurst will do for me, with Liverpool and Man U drawing each other.

Best thing would be for us to get a big club at home in the quarter-finals.
Better to have a shot at knocking them out in a one-off game than have to face them over two-legs in the semi's :p

Who would you prefer? Man Utd? Liverpool?
Sheff Utd are, in my opinion, the second weakest team left that we could have faced. I'd rather that than face Man Utd and get knocked out. Save the really big clubs for the 2 legged semis
El Aguila
05-12-2002, 11:09 AM
I would have preferred any of the big clubs at Selhurst - I would give us a 50 - 50 chance of beating any of them in a one-off home match.

I'm perfectly happy with the draw. We now have a realistic chance of making it to the semis.

Hmmm....don't agree. As mentioned before, one off we can beat anyone 'bigger'. But Sheff Utd...tricky.
Can't believe I may be going to Sheffield twice in a month......never been there before last weekend either.
Wanted ManUre at home personally.
Cleon

Realistically, this gives us the best chance of going through, although I'd rather we were at home (obviously). The obvious danger is that we'd go out having reached the Quarter Finals without having had the 'pay day' of playing a big club. The bonus would be to get through this round, and either meet a 'big club', such as Chelsea or Man Utd (and get money & knocked out), or end up with Wigan and a realistic chance of a trip to Cardiff!
So, it's a bit of a gamble, innit?!

I think its an ok draw for us, we got this far on the back of some good fortune with home draws. Now we have a bit of a test, 3 hard games in order to win it. To win anything you need to play a few hard games, now the players have to go up there and battle.

to be honest yes
Chelsea away would have been much better. It would have been a big pay day, we would have taken thousands of fans, sang them out of the ground, and had an outside chance.
Sheff Utd away is dodgy as - I would give it 20/80 their favour

I don't know about others but it's all a bit reminiscent of FA Cup 1990.... same/lower division teams at home then an away game in the QF. Sheff Utd are beatable - and as Alan says revenge after an 89th minute defeat will be a great motivator.
I have got a good feeling about this... No Kabba as he will be cup-tied (ditto Windass). Sheff Utd have beaten Leeds/Sunderland - both teams in the North/North East - to packed houses. I think Palace at home for them will be a disappointment and a potential banana-skin. They may be complacent (having just beaten us) or just not so fired-up (as we are not Premiership teams from the region, who will not be bringing thousands of away fans).
Just a thought....

Excellent, just checked, and Kabba played from Grimsby against Chesterfield, and Windass for Middlesboro against Brentford.

All cup finals seem to have some sort of story behind them. Wouldn't it be great if this years 'story' was how Trevor Francis took Birmingham to Cardiff and lost to Liverpool and then returned with the fabulous Eagles to repay the scousers in full.:p
Yep, Palace V Liverpool Final that'll do for me.
Gooders
05-12-2002, 12:47 PM
I wanted a big club at home because that would have been the best chance of knocking them out but failing that, I think we've got the easiest team left - I reckon Wigan would have been a tougher game.
Would have been nice to get another home draw but you can't have everything. On our day, we can tw@t Sheff Utd.
And we will.

I was just thinking that too.
Earlier I was asking for Man Ure away. But all this would have achieved was a bit of a drunken day out with an almost certain defeat at the end of it. Whilst I would have preferred a home draw, by playing sheff utd away we still have a very realistic chance of going through as stated by others. I hope Kabba is cup tied as he didn't score at the weekend and is one of the few ex-palace I can remember not scoring against us in recent times. It all smells of fate trying to piss us off as he could get his 2nd chance in a couple of weeks!

Life's good. Already had a meeting arranged in Leeds for the 18th. I was dreading a home draw!
Good stuff - I shall be going to this game - all I need to do is decide how i'm going to get there- do I drive, or do I get on the coach (never been on the coach, yet never been to Shefield)

don't think it will show that at all. You'll get quite a few people going because it's a quarter final who wouldn't go if it was an ordinary league game I'd imagine (like those who didn't go last Saturday for example!!) and people (like me) who may not (still not sure!) be able to get away from work/other commitments in the week - but don't miss many away games.

Thanks for voicing that. I can't stand that feeling inside when you can't get to a midweek game cos of work etc & some git makes a "loyalty" jibe, despite the fact that you go all over the bloody place every weekend. Sorry to rant, but it just riles me that's all.
The Football League have confirmed that this game will take place on Tuesday 17th December 2002, kick-off at 19:45.
Could somebody update the Home page accordingly, please.
Anyone know how much this will cost going by the Coach?
Cheers.
