One of the big differences that I've noticed since coming to Australia is that so many more women seem to keep up a sport after they leave school etc.

A few weeks ago, on a Saturday morning, I had to drive up to Daylesford about 45mins drive from home. Every town I went to there seemed to be a netball game in progress. Must admit I nearly crashed the car a few times...also half the girls where I work play netball.

The Australian netball playoff final has just been on and although I've never really been able to watch the game before (as played in England), I must admit this was pretty good entertainment, with the glorious Melbourne Phoenix girls coming home against Adelaide by a one goal margin.

The only Englishwoman I'm aware of who plays in the national league over here is the sister of the infamous Neville brothers (and she's not good enough to make the first team of the Aus league team she plays for).

Is this participation level just another reason why Australia usually flog England in just about any sport you could mention - including in womens' events?
