Sadly, the BBC has just reported that he has died.

A friend of a friend played for his team in Jersey. Apparently he has set up a trust fund to ensure that Blackburn has sufficient funds.

When Jack Walker came along I think everyone I thought you could just win with money.

As a few clubs, most notably Wolves, have shown, it isn't that easy.

Not just a rich man, but seemingly a pretty smart one too. Wouldn't everyone like to have the kind of effect on their club which he did?

LONDON, Aug 18 (Reuters) - Former Blackburn Rovers chairman Jack Walker, who bankrolled the club's rise to the pinnacle of English football, has died at the age of 70, the English first division club announced on Friday.
The reclusive multi-millionaire, who made his fortune in the steel industry, had been suffering from cancer.
His solicitor Paul Egerdon-Vernon said in a statement issued on behalf of the club on Friday: "It's with great sadness that the announcement is made of the death of Jack Walker on August 17.
"He died after a short battle with cancer which was diagnosed earlier this year, which he fought with his customary courage and determination."
After buying the modest Lancashire club he supported since boyhood in 1991, Walker pumped millions of pounds into the team, attracting top players like England striker Alan Shearer.
Under coach Kenny Dalglish, Rovers were promoted to the premier league in 1992 and won the championship in 1995 for the first time since 1914.
Their championship-winning side soon broke up though and they were relegated to the first division in 1999.

A fan who bought his club and realised his dream of making them Champions.

And he did it with dignity (and without constantly drawing attention to himself in the media through ridiculous soundbytes).

Rest in peace, Jack.

how true. A man who stayed out of the media and didn't try to draw attention to himself. Went about his business in a dignified manner, he was a credit to football.
