Good luck to my local team, Skipton, in the Grand Final of the Lexton Plains League v. Carngham/Linton next Saturday...

Attempting to banish a tragic history...

Vic, do Mannibadar have a team?

Certainly not in the Lexton Plains league...I wouldn't have thought Mannibadar was big enough to have a footy team? As it's so close to Linton I would have thought people living in Mannibadar would play for Carngham/Linton.

I'll ask around at work this afternoon... where I work is probably only about 8kms from Mannibadar...

Why do you ask, pray tell?

Vic, it was an attempt (in vain) to set up an even more obscure Aussie Rules thread, had Mannibadar participated in a more minor comp than Skipton!

You might have a bit more luck if you set up an obscure tennis tournaments thread, philaire...asked around at work and no there is no Mannibadar footy club.

They do however have a tennis court, and also, according to our receptionist, a half decent tennis team.

Not bad for a few houses and the obligatory CFA corrugated iron shed....

... which I believe was built in 1988, replacing the one built in 1945. For more, see http://www.skiptonps.vic.edu.au/history/skiphis.htm

Nice to see that Asha thought to interview Graham Pett - Petty works in our plant...I'm sure he's got a few stories he could tell about Skipton (some of which probably shouldn't be told to primary school children...)

"Petty crimes in Skipton"

By the way, Vic, do you want to expand on the "tragic history" of the footy club?

Merely that the last time Skipton won the Grand Final was in 1937...in the words of our receptionist at work:

'The last time Skipton won the Grand Final my grandad was playing for them...'

Just to provide 'closure' of this obscure thread...sadly Skipton were on the wrong end of an absolute shellacking at the hands of the mighty Carngham Linton:

Carngham Linton 28 17 185 defeated
Skipton 5 4 34

One hundred and fifty one point victory! I hope Skipton don't have to wait another 63 years to avenge this defeat...wonder if they could do with a ruckman...first pom to play in the Lexton Plains league?

g'day Philaire - I note with interest that you are ( or were ) a Carngham-Linton supporter in 2000 when the last post in this thread was made.

I assume you know who won the 2002 and 2003 Premierships which is why we've heard no more from you on the subject <g>?

Perhaps those who don't know might want to have a look here:

Sorry Philaire - in my obscene haste to bag someone I got it wrong - it was Vic Eagle who followed the recently-hammered Carngham-Linton team - my apologies <g>
