Pity about the torch not lighting up properly as well.
Still, Tina Arena was good - she's got a great pair of lungs on her. Apparently her real name is Maggie Stadium, but she thought that it didn't sound showbiz enough.

I still remember Tina's first appearance on TV as an eight year old in 'Young Talent Time'. She made such an impression she ended up joining the regulars and her career became a bit of a joke. Then she grew up and no one's laughing now.
Mendosa, I didn't hear the song but surely it can't be worse than any of Britain's entries in the Eurovision?

I can't understand why anyone would buy a ticket to see the opening ceremony. Its just a bunch of atheletes walking around the track and a couple of people singing.
I can understand if they do it world cup style, with some actual games straight after, but they don't...pointless.
Or maybe im just having a bad day.

I don't understand why anyone would want to watch football at the ground with all those crowds getting in the way and making noise. Much better to watch it from the comfort of your own home.
Or maybe I'm just having a really bad day. http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

my parents have informed me that they've videod it for me - so let me know which are the bad bits and I'll fast forward those!!!
Opening ceremonies can be quite good - remember going to one at the world athletic championships in Gothenberg - enjoyed that - simple but effective.

Hmmmmm I must be getting old then, cos I really did enjoy it !! Even Olivia and John Farnham were ok - considering....
I suppose you didnt like Julie Anthony singing the National Anthem either then (for those of you who remember who she is http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/wink.gif

It's required that Julie Anthony sing the national anthem. Mainly because she's the only one who knows all the words http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif Apparently she even did the second verse - Most Aussies have more chance of discovering the grand unified theory of everything than being able to recite the lyrics of that verse. Mind you, considering the first one contains the words "our home is girt by sea" you soon lose the will to continue singing the song http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

I`m a sucker for watching things like this but they did a brilliant job even if it was a bit long winded, shame about the flame getting stuck at the end though maybe they needed a bit more of the old amber nectre?

Just watched the re-run on Eurosport.
Not bad, but frankly does not cut much ice with any one privileged to see the West Bromwich Albion Centenary pre-match celebration.
Who can top the bonza idea of a DAYLIGHT firework extravaganza, replete with plastic paratroopers (which unfortunately got nuked).
Also I liked the way the WBA players legged it, leaving the Palace players to inhale the smoke!
Move over Sydney, acknowledge the supremacy of the Baggies!

Have just spent most of the morning watching this and I must admit, VERY IMPRESSIVE - well done to the Aussies, this has to be one of the best openings yet (if not THE best).

Apart from that Olivia-Newton John 'number'. Ooof. No need for that sort of pap.
Rest of it thought, agreed, very good. Well done the Aussies.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear.
They've just ruined the entire thing with this God-awful singing I'm having to endure from someone who wants to be an American. F*CK ME WHAT AN ABSOLUTE RACKET.
Sorry Australia. You've rendered the entire opening ceremony as one of the worst ever from that cacophony, a travesty of a song and a disgrace of a singer.
I liked the fish earlier on though http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

Better than taking a sleeping pill?
How many times are they going to tell us that Rules Players are Real men, what does that make the rest of the men in Aussie?
Move over Brighton? http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/redface.gif
