Following on from Tommy Black's goal on Tuesday, where Burnley were organising their wall...
What do people think about walls at free kicks.
Surely a decent goalie should be able to stop any shot from static that is fired from 18 yards (and invariably more) away.
All the wall seems to do is create a foolish sense of security encouraging the golaie not to stand midway between the posts (a al Seaman v Holland in 1993).
I vote we do away with walls on any free kick more than 20 yards from goal.

When you see how many penalties are being missed from 12 yards with no wall, it makes you wonder why a keeper needs a wall with the ball 25-30 yards from goal. I saw Strachan debating this point earlier in the week, saying that he was going to try something different, but wouldn't divulge exactly what it is going to be.

The wall should be split in 2. With 2 or 3 players covering each post and a gap in the middle. This way the keeper can stand in the middle and can see where the ball is going. Also if it is a power shot it will more likely to be straight at the keeper, and if they are trying to put it in the top corner 1) he players in the wall will be making that harder 2) The keeper is in the middle of the goal so can move to either side quickly.

Is this a mad idea or could it work?
