Selhurst road (outside Selhurst Station) will be closed from 6th Jan to 13th March, for repairs on railway bridge.

You are advised to leave earlier than normal if you drive to games or use the bus as diversions will be in place. Parking restrictions will also be in operation in the area.

Notices all over West Croydon bus station about this. They could have least do the work outside of the season!

There are also road works in Addiscombe - junction of Lower Addiscombe Road and Blackhorse Lane. Three way temporary traffic lights are causing allsorts of delays all around the area and are expected to last 6 weeks. Another area to avoid on match days.

But that would imply that Croydon Council gave a sh*t about Palace fans! :hmph:

I live very close to Selhurst station. At the moment its taking upto 20mins to get out of my road which is only about 100m long. I cant imagine what its going to be like on match days. All the surroundng roads are chaos, so I would allow at least an extra 20/30mins when travelling to home games.

Spent 45 mins on the bus outside the authur wait this morning, ive never been sick of the sight of selhurst park, took a hour and half to get to work. All because of the Railway Bridge.

If Nookiebear wants a lift he'll have to wake up earlier on a Saturday !!

Is this due to Croydon Council or Network Rail?

Just another cheery thought for those coming from the south, when is work due to start on the A23 Coulsdon bypass?

The bridge will be railtracks and if it needs repair then the timing of these works will have been worked out in conjunction with the local authority and the police.
I assume they must be fairly urgent or they would have left it until the school summer holidays....

The traffic - including buses - is being diverted round whitehorse road, whitehorse lane and park Road. I wonder if they've considered what they are going to do when they close Park road on match days???????? It is complete chaos :sob:

Oh great - it is bad enough getting there in normal traffic and now we have to put up with this... Oh well, time to think of plan B...

Skate, good point about Park road and match days! They cant have thought that one out? Shudder to think what the traffic will be like on the 26th, it will be bad enough next Saturday. Any problems in Whitehorse Lane/Road over the next few weeks will bring the whole road network into Croydon from South London to total gridlock! There must be a better way?

'Fraid not Riccardo. You can download an acrobat file about it Here (http://www.tfl.gov.uk/streets/pdfdocs/schemes/Coulsden%20Town%20Centre.pdf)

I think it's due to start sometime in the spring.

What?

So this will be happening when the Liverpool game is on then? That will be good, glad i get the train now!

Does anyone know if you can still cross Selhurst Road (by Car!)from Gloucester Road into Dagnall Park Road. I usually manage to park around there and as I come up from Bath car is most convenient form of travel.
Thanks.

Network Rail - nothing to do with Croydon Council who, like London tarnsport, have no powers in this respect.

In case anyone wondered - the trains aren't affected and are running as normal (whatever normal is these days !).

You can also still walk through ok, on the side of the station.

I didn't tell you this but.......

The fire barrier the other side of the station, is forced open almost every day, so you 'may' be able to get through it on saturday!

The first day of the closure there was a queue from 1 end of Saxon road to the other and it must have taken about 40-60 mintes to drive 100 yards.

The traffic around here is horendous.

Just glad i live within 10 minutes walking distance of the ground!

Sorry G.G. having used that route a few times last week, yesterday it was padlocked and blocked by bollards. Seems the council have found out a few locals were using that route to escape the chaos. Instead of allowing access on a temp basis to help lessen the traffic jams they as normal are doing their best to make lives hard as possible for Croydon people. It may be true that the bridge needs urgent repair, but a better thought out way of managing the traffic could have been found with a little thought, but then Croydon Council are not known for brains. Sorry but the bit in this Fridays Adder about Croydon being the best boro in London is utter rubbish!!

Not that I work for Croydon or anything, but I'm sure if you have a well thought out alternataive that takes all interested/affected parties into account they would like to see it?

Indeed it usually is, but lets just say some determined people usually find a way! ;)

When i go to work i walk past the barrier and it is padlocked and bollarded (8am) but by the time i come home (6pm) it is wide open and people travelling through.

Sorry G.G. it was not padlocked before, there was just a removable bolt, I know as I was one of those law breakers. They have now put a heavy padlock and protection cover to prevent us going down there with bolt cutters. Good article about it all in the Croydon Guardian today. Would strongly suggest anybody using that route allows at least extra 20 mins to get there on Saturday. Even worse there are new parking restrictions on Clifton and Park road coming on Monday if you read the public notices in the same edition of the C.G.

Some good news the peoples popular front of Selhurst seem to have zapped the councils latest padlock and the gate has been open all day yesterday and today. Of course depending on how peacefull a Saturday afternoon they want, it may or may not be open tomorrow!

Reading in to Clapham Junction and then back out again (platform 15 to Selhurst or Norwood Junction) would be easiest Samo

What's the traffic like on Whitehorse Road in the rush hours? Specifically on the bridge with the speed camera on it over the railway line.

Have they put pigeon nets up or will I still have to sprint under the bridge to try and avoid getting splatted, while desparately concentrating on not slipping on the pigeon produced sludge on the pavement?

It was heaven driving away from the game last night down Selhurst Road - hardly anyone was aware that the route under the bridge is open again, and must still be driving their "alternative" route, and I almost had the road to myself!!!!
