View Full Version : Fly To Liverpool Direct from Gatwick!

28-01-2003, 02:23 PM
For those interested - I am sorting out a charter flight from Gatwick to Liverpool to go out at lunchtime or late afternoon and back after the match (aircraft will wait if extra time etc). Cost should be about £100 including coach transfer from and back to the airport.
Takes a lot of beating if you dont want to take an extra days holiday - and want to be back in your bed by midnight!
Only 55 mins each way.........cant beat it!
Contact me if interested - as need more bums on seats to make it work....have also been asked to do similar for Leeds game.

What leeds game would that be???????? Are you really anticipating that we beat Liverpool, Leeds beat Gills and then we draw against Leeds at SP and have to go for another replay??? ;)

sounds good - let us know what sort of time you'd leave Selhurst/Gatwick...
eaglegeezer
28-01-2003, 02:50 PM
reckon on between 2-4 depending on the feedback. Rail connections are good to Gatwick from whole of south and london - so if people want to leave earlier for more beer time.......so be it.........if majority prefer bit later........so be it!
Main problem at moment is getting the word around to enough people to make it work! Saying that - support is growing by the hour!

How many people are needed?

Why not ask Ray Bateup to put the possibilty out with his CPFRICS bulletin this evening ?

Hi Eagle geezer! Now very interested as I now have the Wednesday off work - what time to you anticpate that we'd get back into Gatwick......? Want to bring my partner but he'll have to work on Thursday so as long as we're not too late back then I reckon it's a goer!
Anyone know if tickets are still available to ST holders - be a bit sick if I booked a ticket for the plane and then couldn't get a ticket for the match!
I'd definitely be interested if the flight was a little later. I'm on a course in Crawley that day and can't get out of it.

Plenty of tickets available from the box office - they took 4000 and they have not gone like hotcakes........think they are 18 quid each.
Would be very helpful if all those genuinely interested sent me an email with contact phone number / number in group / preferred time of departure from Gatwick urgently as this does seem to be picking support, and could welll be a goer.
So far as the return flight goes........should be back by midnight....depends on extra time & penalty scenario.........but you will be the first to arrive back - guaranteed minimum of 4 -5 hours before the coaches!
Vicstress

Hi
Just spoke to the box office and they say that it's only a 3 hour drive on coach.....and will go straight back to Selhurst.....I'm not sure as I've never been that far north (get a nosebleed if I go as far as Watford!)
Any ideas?
eaglegeezer
29-01-2003, 08:46 AM
Takes me 3 hrs to drive to Manchester at 85-90 mph on motorway......there is no chance of the coaches taking 3 hours! Got to be 4 hours minimum - plus however long it takes to get from the ground to the motorway.........3 hours is a joke!

London - Liverpool in little over three hours in perfectly do-able late at night, if you are prepared to speed and obviously the coaches can't.
The problem for drivers is the average 35/45 mins in takes to crawl 5 miles away from the ground.
Just out of interest eaglegeezer, would you be arranging for a Police escort back to Liverpool airport to speed your own journey?
eaglegeezer
29-01-2003, 09:05 AM
coaches will be parked in an appropriate position......and local police assistance will be given.......as always!
Also we will do a "round-trip" check in at Gatwick - so when we arrive at Liverpool Airport after the game we just go straight back onto the aircraft and away.......no delays!
Vicstress
29-01-2003, 09:26 AM
Still up for the plane thing but if I book my ticket now and not my coach will I end up with no transport? Don't want to end up snookered and have to drive!
Have you had much interest eaglegeezer? How many people will you need to make it happen?

Info
major roadworks around Liverpool John Lennon Airport
There will be major roadworks to the A533 and A562 close to Liverpool John Lennon Airport between February and May 2003.
This will affect traffic heading to and from the M56 and Runcorn Bridge, and coming from the Runcorn, Widnes and Warrington areas in general. easyJet has been advised that this may result in lengthy diversions, and therefore strongly recommends that passengers using these routes to allow plenty of extra time for their journey.
For more information, call the Highways Hotline on 0151 471 7519

No offence mate , but you have been pretty vague so far .
Surely you've got the best quote and can inform us . Was it THE company that took the roadworks into account ?
And you haven't answered what you were on about when you mentioned the Leeds game at the start .
Whats that about ?
For all we know you could be one of those dodgy thieving scousers "having a laugh" at our expense (literally if tickets are bought).
I'm sure I'm wrong but please provide something other than offers , details would be good.

Lightweight, Neil, and Mat, the airline in question is the one I spoke to you about in the Cherries, I have sent a PM to eaglegeezer.
Remember the problems with Celtic, this is the same airline.
eaglegeezer
29-01-2003, 02:36 PM
With all due repect......celtic fans are completely outrageous! There are only 2 airlines left in the uk that will fly for them. They have had a lot of problems with their charter flights....especially with one travel agent in particular!
Also bear in mind that those boys had been on a 2 day session and physically abused the aircrew.
They did no different than what a coach driver would do with the same abuse.........only you dont get to hear about it when it happens on coaches do you? Not quite so dramatic!

OK lets us get one thing clear here, when I mentioned the Celtic problem in my prior post; I was mentioning it to remind people about their behaviour on the return flight. This airline is a little too close to my heart:p

It would appear a few fans are sharing concerns that I had. I was a bit concerned that Eaglegeezer had a smart answer for evry question and had only just joined the BBS. I had no problem with someone makinga bit of money if they can be bothered to organise something but didnt want to pay for a flight and match ticket and end up listening to it on the radio at Gatwick as someone had nicked my money.
I have met very few people from the BBS but from asking a few questions it would appear that Eaglegeezer is bone fide and has genuine connections to Palace ( as a fan I would point out not in an official capacity). If it can be arranged I am now happy to pay up front.

OK folks I can confirm that "eaglegeezer" has been in contact with the airline. The following was sent to me by my son:
"We have been approached to do this flight. I tried to post that this is a genuine request that has been passed to us and if enough people agree the charter will contact us again to firm. So it will be up to everyone to put their money where their mouths are"
So it is up to those who want to take advantage of this offer, :p
