Actually this is a no-brainer - why would you want to spend the night on an airport floor when you can spend the night in a comfy bed in a nearby hotel????
BaldEagle96
10-03-2008, 02:59 PM
Not in all cases are the airlines paying though as it is not their fault the flights are delayed/cancelled. So with all hotels charging full rate for tonight there are lots of people who will not want to part with 100 notes plus.

I can understand that. It's happened to us once but it was in Cyprus and we ended up staying the night in a hotel, had breakfast (told we were going), had lunch (told we were going) then had dinner and ended up at the airport at 9.15 p.m. Great fun (not).

We have about 10 to sell which I know we will get rid off. Started the day at 80+ to sell.
The main culprits with overcharging are the booking desks at the airport. They are on a VERY high commission rate with the hotels to place business so it is in their interest to charge the most they can get away with. For our remaining rooms this evening we have charged our own guests their agreed rates or circa £99 but the booking desks will sell rooms up to £139. Okay so I make more money and pay more commission but if I did that to my regulars I would not have many regulars left.
