Now folks, I am not in any way a prude but I AM getting just a tad concerned about some of the language that has appeared on the Boards of late.
There are some who go completely overboard at the slightest provocation and dish up more than enough expletives in a two-line post than is reasonable under ANY circumstances. IMO, for as long as these posters are few and far between, it’s probably ok and even adds a bit of colour.
However, it seems to me that more and more people are using inappropriate language as a matter of course. Asterisks don’t hide much: we all read the intended word in their place anyway! If I felt there was added impact to the point being made, I could understand. Occasional use DOES have an impact: regular abuse doesn’t.
I use foul language myself - but I don't write it down and publish it. I think there's a difference.
What’s prompted me posting this now is the two threads started by Gloin recently. The thought is that he/she’s a regular poster under another name - in which case, he/she should know better, assuming he/she’s been posting long enough to understand the flavour and culture of the Boards.
The threads have resulted in a lot of indignation, vitriol and anger - all of which is fair enough - but also this rash of bad language.
What, if anything, can be done?
