Or is it just me that they chose to sell a piece of **** to and refuse to take it back or even admit there is a problem?

Tak
From my own experience having to put one together at work one day (I certainly never ordered it - I told the secretary what to buy and she went off and got a Time instead !) - I agree that they are cack !
After assembling it and powering up for the first time the message "keyboard not detected" appeared on screen - followed much later by numerous problems with the network card !
Send it back mate !!
Yes Tak- send it back ASAP
They won't accept it! It came with the modem in the wrong port which wasn't hard to sort out but I still can't access the net on it, it will connect but I can't open anything just get page unavailable. They say it's the server but I have tried three different ones including their own, reloaded windows twice, tried using netscape and God know what else.
It's going through their ******* window tommorow!

They're fobbing you off mate !!
No way is it "the server" ! - any company that ships a PC with a modem in the wrong slot deserves to go out of business !

Mr Spock my arse.
Get rid of it ASAP, I dealt with them on behalf of a friend. They are dishonest, lying, filthy scum. I would rather lick venables gussets clean than deal with those pieces of filth.
There, thats better. They make my blood boil.

TAK - throw the ******* thing down on the floor in one of their showrooms whilst the place is full of potential customers.
I had the misfortune to buy one 2 years ago. I set it all up and could not even get windows to start up. I had to reinstall everything. Many of the drivers that they installed had missing or corrupted files - in short, nothing worked.
My wife had been talked into paying an extra £300 for a three-year warranty. Of course, it proved worthless. You can never get through but if on one or two occasions you do they ask really intelligent questions like "are you sure you've put all the leads in the right places?" and such like.
The built-in modem they provided had a lead about a foot long which was no good to me and a few teccies I know said "just get a modem cable and use that instead". Didn't work. The only one that would allow me to connect was the cable they'd provided. I had to get a telephone extension cable instead.
I have had my Time PC re-built from scratch twice. The last guy who fixed it for me had to put a new CD-Rom in it because the other one gave up after 15 months (by the way, the speakers stopped working properly within about 6 months) and he has explained to me that my 2 grand+ PC doesn't even have a sound card or video card - just chips in the motherboard! No wonder they knock the damn things out so (allegedly) cheaply! What a rip off!
Anyway, this guy has disabled the video chip and installed a Voodoo 3D card for me which has improved things slightly.
I work in IT but am useless with computers themselves. I now know enough though to be sure that I will never EVER consider buying anything from "Time" again.

These ba*tards are renowned for producing absolute sh*te, they just came bottom (with Tiny who are also a bag of bol*ocks) of a PC Magazine feature - "Service and Reliability Survey"
Dell, Dan, Compaq, HP - All do good deals these days! And they work! (Which must be a novel concept for the other two ******* cowboys I have mentioned!)

What they clearly didn't tell you was you can drop it into any of their showrooms with a service centre (without any packaging) and they'll send up there from free (if they can't fix it themselves).
B4stards!
Good, Ade-boy. Neil and I both have one that we can let you have second hand or, if you prefer, TAK's has never been used!

Had a Time Computer for two years now.
The company is generally uncaring and their customer service stinks, the showroom staff I've dealt with are unhelpful in the extreme. However my tale has a happy ending ... (famous last words)
In sheer desperation I took the PC to a repair shop when it completely refused to boot up (the third major problem in 15 months)
They wiped it clean and loaded a nice, clean copy of Windows on it, replaced a RAM faulty chip and generally overhauled it.
Since then I have four months of relatively trouble-free computing ...
The healthcheck cost £50 and the required part another £85. I realise this was throwing good money have bad, but it appears I've had something of a result.
What I can't understand is why they won't take it back?

This is where I should pipe up and say you shouldn't be buying shi*tty PCs at all, but RISC OS machines instead (ex-Acorn).
Yes, you may laugh ("they're those cr*ppy things they used to use at school aren't they?") but they're quality machines, and reliable too. I've had my Risc PC for about 6 years now and have had absolutely nothing go wrong with it. Oh and I haven't had to upgrade the processor once in all that time to keep it usable (I can, however, simply unplug the processor that's in there on a card and replace it with a StrongARM if I want to, but I don't need to).
I know it won't convert anyone to the cause, but there you go. PC users are the ones who lose out. Windows ? http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/dead.gif

Got mine 2 years ago and it's been an ornament ever since. It's been sent back 5 times and still no joy. Lost a load of work on it as well. They've already been on Watchdog. Basically they're w*****s. A mate of mine from Blackburn warned me not to buy anything off of 'Burnley bas**rds' and I really should have listened to him. Still, it'll give me extra reason to hope that we stuff them next season....

Almost the same story as mine Neil (except that my overhaul cost considerably more due to needing a new CD-ROM and the video card).
Why won't they take it back?
I think my deal (and I'm fairly sure this applies to all of their customers) was that in case of problems one has to pack the whole thing back into the boxes it arrived in and pay for it to be shipped to Blackburn! And I paid £300 for that privilege!
There is no way anyone could get all of the bits back in their original packaging and does anyone honestly believe that they would ever see their PC again? I think not.
Time do not deserve to be in business. They ship out badly built, cheaply assembled PC's and they don't have any staff who are in any way capable of sorting any problems out, even if they wanted to.
They are a ******* joke. Leonard Nimoy should be ashamed of himself for putting his name to such a pants product.

Should have come and seen me Neil - I would've done it for half that price http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
I can thoroughly recommend Dan Technology
computers - worked with and ordered them for
years and they are excellent machines.

I did this twice, but then lost all faith in their ability to sort the problem and my year only warranty ran out.

Yeah mine has been alright aswell, and my name really is ammiller! I've got an old P266, and I'm running Win2000 of it. I was worried it would slow it down no end, but its not too bad. I think that no matter who you buy from you just have to get lucky. My old man bought a Dell machine and its been back three times already.
Well they have finally admitted that there might be a problem and taken it back. However arussell, when it returns if it doesn't work right, would you look at it for me? Usual rates, obviously.

Two problems tonight.
1. Being a 50% owner in the PC that Tak has been moaning about I was glad to hear from Tiny that they had replaced the modem, tested the PC and that it was running perfectly. Today it turns back up, I set it up and go to connect to the Internet and........yep, same problem.
What happens is that the modem makes all the right noises, you connect to the start programe for various ISP's ( I have tried to register with 4 today ) and then, after progressing through 1/4 parts of the registration process the screen suddenly goes blank before being replaced with a message saying that the page could not be opened and claiming that there is a DNS/explorer problem. (excately the same page that you get when the BBS has been down in the past ) In the past we have had similar problems with different PC's using the same telephone line. BT have visited our office three times and have put the 'gain' on the line to maximum and claim that it is NOT the line.
Any ideas gents ?
2. I also have a PC that is not well and needs looking at. Any ideas ? ( arussell, is this your sorta thang ? )

Time pc's - are they the same as Time Computer Stores??
"Simon Jordan and Andrew Briggs founded The Pocket Phone Shop six years ago whith £15,000 each. The two met while working for rival chain Carphone Warehouse.
The company now has 167 shops across the country as well as concessions in Time Computer stores."
just thought it was worth a mention!
I cannot ****ing believe this, I AM SO ANGRY.
There is still this piece of rubbish still sitting in my office waiting for a new modem supposedley sent out on three separate occaisions.
And the F**kers just phoned up and tried to sell me a support package. The little git wouldn't take no for an answer. I didn't know I could swear so much at one individual.

Sounds like it is timing out on you Matt - that message also comes up when it takes too long to download a page.
Try a faster modem, see if that helps.
