EDIT: 28 June 2003, Kick off 1pm, nearest tube: Old Street.

As some may have read on the 'Kick about' thread, on 28 June a BBS side including such footballing no-marks as myself, Skin Up and Baloo - with Riccardo Lippi as manager - will be taking on the oh-so-scary Oxted Orient.

Omnipresent Julian Gray fan Daniel Nash has kindly suggested Finsbury Leisure Centre as the venue, and even more unselfishly left yours truly to stump up £100 to pay for the pitch. ;)

Which is where this thread comes in. I will be booking the pitch on Saturday, but obviously I need to know that I'll get that £100 back first. So, basically, this thread is for those who want to play to say so, and are willing to put their money on it.

If there are 16 of us playing 8-a-side, it'll come to roughly £6 a head - so let's say the maximum cost would be £7, in case a couple don't turn up. THE PITCH IS ASTROTURF, SO YOU'LL NEED TRAINERS!

If you'd be willing to pay this, whether you play for us or the Orient, and can a kick off sometime between 12 and 2 (depending on when I can book the pitch), please post below. Obviously the more the merrier - we'll have rolling subs to keep those old legs of Baloo and Lambeth Palace fresh. :)

A map of the pitch is here. It's very near Old Street tube. And I've only just realised it's my old uni's sports centre, so will be a blast from the past for me. :D

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetma...M?P=ec1v3qf&Z=1

I'll be fighting Zonin for the skipper's armband, and one of us will pick the side nearer the time. ;)

If the pitch is like the bexley astro, you can use boots. Bring them just in case!

Oh and I'm in.

Daniel_Nash

I'll play ;)

Can i have a shirt with Gray 11 on the back pllleeease? Preferably a Spurs shirt, so i am ready for next season ;)

You can use "blade" type boots, but it might be like playing in high-heels. Now there's a though

Latvian, can you get in touch with other Orienters and get them to post, or post on their behalf if they're available? Thanks.

There's a lovely pub opposite City called The Bull, great place for us to traipse off to afterwards. Or plenty on Old Street itself.

Islington isn't too far away, it's where the CM offices are :), and in Upper St (nr to Highbury and Islington tube) there is a place called Bierodrome. It sells real Belgian beers, not Belgian beers brewed in England.

You saw how mobile I am on my ankle these days, so no (OK, it was partly hangover but the ankle's horribly weak and I always fear it will go again)
I'm also flying back from a week in the sun on that Saturday so no again I'm afraid. If you stay drinking in North London I might be tempted to pop along later though.

We need sixteen definites by this Saturday to make it financially viable - if it ends up 5-a-side it'll cost us a tenner each.

Obviously if people want to wait til next week to add themselves then please do - I'd rather only the definites post at the mo, just I know we've got enough to book the pitch. :)

ORIENT Left back, great cook, piss artist and all-round nice guy "Latvian" revealed to the press how the morale around Lagham Road is at an all time low after they heard player-manager Mark Tyrell would be unavalible for the pre-season game with a BBS VIII.

"Well you know, you know, the gaffer you know, there centre backs gonna sleep easier tonight innit, gutted, you know, you know end of the day, gotta go on without him."

Those aware of the hitmans ability will know just how influential he was to the Orient front line last term grabbing a goal in four appearences, from under a yard out.

Hes expected to be sent to rehab this week and recover just before the Christmas period.

With this development, have the pre-match mind games swung in the BBS selectas favour?

Daniel_Nash

Because it's not to do with where the teams are based so much as where the players are based. It would involve some 2 hrs of travelling for some, inc me, to make it to Croydon whereas it would take some people 5 mins. In the interests of fairness to all, it was deemed easier to have everyone make some effort rather than some make a HUGE effort and others not much at all.

If that makes sense.

It's also not "North" London, the Leisure Centre has an EC postcode. It is Central London :)

19-06-2003, 02:10 PM
Lambeth, I'd like at least 20 altogether so we have subs etc. If Karl wants to come he's more than welcome.

It looks like I'll be booking the pitch, but obviously I'm concered about only ten people turning up - as then everyone will have to pay a tenner and I'll look like a right ogre!

Lambeth Palace
19-06-2003, 02:16 PM
We'll get more then ten.

Me
You + 2
Zonin
Pallet
AndyStreet
358Eagle

Plus the Oxted boys makes enough already.
Add 2 for MarkHolmes and the extra people myself and Pallet can bring along and we get 20+ easy peasy.

Daniel_Nash
19-06-2003, 02:32 PM
I think we have, or will have, more than enough for our team. We don't need any "conjured" players.

Looks like it's all being sorted out :)!

zonin2000
19-06-2003, 02:49 PM
What sort of positions do we (Team BBS) have covered?

Marczhiyi GK

Benzhiyi DF
358Eagle DF

zonin2000 MF
AndyStreet MF
Karl MF
Lambeth MF

Pallet FW

That's 8, plus Markholmes (position)

This is an 8 a side game right?

Benzhiyi
19-06-2003, 02:54 PM
We've also got Colum (D).

Marc isn't a particularly great keeper, usually plays in midfield. Good eye for a pass. I suggest we rotate the keeper every ten mins or so.

markholmes1991

zonin2000
19-06-2003, 02:56 PM
Quality, we've got a good number of defenders.

Isn't your younger brother a keeper Ben?

Lambeth Palace
19-06-2003, 03:01 PM
Our only worry really is not having a proper keeper, I'll give berg a bell later and see if he fancies it, he only lives up the road.

markholmes1991
19-06-2003, 03:07 PM
p.s my forgot to add, my mate Stuart is also a defender.

zonin2000
19-06-2003, 03:39 PM
We need a goalkeeper.

we'll be in trouble otherwise.

Daniel_Nash
19-06-2003, 03:41 PM
Shame :D

Can we decide some basic rules.. like, can go in the area but no shooting. Also, defenders won't be penalised for stepping in the area.

Over head height or not? I think yes, it should be allowed because of the size of the pitch.

Any others?

Lambeth Palace
19-06-2003, 03:42 PM
Lets wait until we see the size of the pitch, area, goals etc before we decide on the rules.

GreatGonzo
19-06-2003, 03:44 PM
Well if we have a No Passing rule Trilby can have an excuse! :D

Daniel_Nash
19-06-2003, 03:44 PM
I have played there twice before.

The size of the pitch is quite large, don't know dimensions but it's certainly larger than you'd expect. The area is normal 5-a-side areas. The goals are 5-a-side goals.

Or it was when i played a year ago.

Lambeth Palace
19-06-2003, 03:48 PM
OK, well I would say Goalies only in the areas. Penalty if a defender steps in. free kick if an attacker steps in. ignore the head height rule.

Can the ball go out of play?

Daniel_Nash
19-06-2003, 03:51 PM
There is a cage round the outside of the pitch, so i doubt the ball can go out of play except for goal kicks or corners.

I don't like the freekick/penalty thingy, personally. But i also don't like the idea of defenders sitting on the goal line. Hmm.

GreatGonzo
19-06-2003, 03:55 PM
But that would stop me and by 3/4 inch blasters!

Cage round the outside? Like the sound of that - Hell in a Cell!

zonin2000
19-06-2003, 04:08 PM
Ok,

- the ball can go over head height

- players are not allowed in the penalty area, but let's be sensible, if a defender strays into the area accidentally then no penalty. If he stays in there for a few seconds, or touches the ball, then penalty.

Daniel_Nash
19-06-2003, 04:10 PM
It is like Hell in a Cell, but no roof. :)

Zonin, how about if a defender were to run across the area as the last man to tackle an attacker? Taking more than a few seconds, but tackling the man outside the area.

zonin2000
19-06-2003, 04:31 PM
Yes, let's call it 'interfering with play', if a player goes into the area however briefly, then immediately tackles someone or blocks a shot then we'll give a direct free kick, to be taken as quickly as the attacking team likes.

Daniel_Nash
19-06-2003, 04:32 PM

Oxted Orient today sadly announce that Daniel Bailey, Mark Ritson, Steve Goodwin and Kevin Risby have departed from the club. All have left to move up to higher leagues and to further their careers. Relling from these shock announcements James Daly, Mike Hall wil join Keithy Boy on part time contacts and finally the decision of Pete Symons to retire from Oxted.

An official club spokesman described the news as 'its like having the heart ripped out of the team. Where we go from here is unclear but the coming weeks will be very interesting. Manager Mark Tyrrell is working very hard on brining in quality players and we have complete faith that the team will continue to move forwards'

CPFC BBS FC Sign Unknown 'Wonderkid'

Today CPFC BBS FC announced the signing of 'The Omen'.

'The Omen' (a volleyball player by trade) has said he thinks the idea of kicking a ball rather than wellying it with his hand seems a bit strange, but he's willing to give it a go.

He's a 5-a-side player and currently plays for a team (Pearce's Pirates) that has one the Chessington 5-a-side football league 4 seasons in a row - however he is known to be the weakest player on the pitch and has been known to be given a run about out of sympathy... :)

He is a fit player and will comfortably fit into a defensive midfield rule.

ummmm, hadn't considered it to be honest - I'm really not sure if I'm up to the standard!! :)

I'll see how I get on with this match and see how far behind I am. I used to be quite a good player, but I stopped playing for about 7-8 years and only started playing in a 5-a-side league twice a week in the last 6 months.

I don't mind helping out if you are really short, but I don't want to be a weak point in the side...

Oxted Orient goalkeeper Jim Buckley has gone AWOL from training, stating personal problems as his reason. It is unclear whether the matter will be resolved in time for Saturday (It should be damn it). The club have tried contacting the youngster who is currently refusing to leave his house or answer telephone calls.

It is unclear quite what these personal problems are.

Game preparations start tomorrow! Never will zonin2000 have ever been so well prepared, both physically and mentally, for a match of football. Ready to run the game from midfield.

Now for the first in the series of player profiles (Oxted you're responsible for your own) leading up to the big game:

358Eagle

Real name: Andrew Charles Wicks
D.O.B: 16 December 1983, 19 years old
Position: Defender/Midfielder Right/Centre

Andy is a hardworking grafter who will complement the BBS side's more skillful players. He is quite quick and makes up for his technical deficiencies through his tracking back and harrying and he is also a useful asset on the counter attack. Andy started out playing at Orpington football training sessions wearing his tight Man Utd shirt. He played a few games for his cub and scout sides but has been out of the game recently, playing occasional amateur football.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I just booked the pitch, asked three times to make sure it was the large pitch and the woman kept saying "They're all six-a-side". Very confusing.

Plus she only charged me £80, which is the cost of one of the smaller pitches.

Not sure what to do now.

Mis-booking the pitch to a 6-a-side?

Looks like the oppostion are running scared and trying to reduce the numbers in a vain attempt to disrupt the Orient plans! :D

I've asked Dan Nash to ring them and check it's the right pitch, as he knows the sports centre.

Shall wait to hear back from him...

Try ringing again Ben. Maybe a different operator will answer, one with brains perhaps.

Trilby

Real name: James Daly
D.O.B: 31 May 1984
Position: Forward/Inside Right
Orient Record: Games: 58 Goals: 61

Prone to long bouts of hogging and diving, Trilby models himself on Matt Jansen yet plays more like Alan Hansen.
A journeyman footballer already despite only being 19, Trilby was on the books of both Dorking and Whyteleaf last seson. Has gay white boots with 'Triby 7' on so will be easy to mark out, and foul.

Big fat defender in the Neil Ruddock mould. Gentle giant who gets angrier playing Pro Evolution than he does on the football field. More dangerous from 20 yards than he is from 2. Sparring partner of Spanish wunderkid Lambeth Palace - Saturday will be the fourth time in as many weeks that they have lined up on the same side. Looking forward to marking Trilby out of the game for a second consecutive week.
