View Full Version : BBS Fundraising Suggestions
As you can all see the adverts from the BBS have been removed as our contract with the agency was cancelled.
This means that there will be a serious shortfall in the money required to fund the BBS (circa £175 a month). Apart from the subs that many members kindly donate every month www.cpfc.org/mandate.html (http://www.cpfc.org/mandate.html) can anyone come up with any good suggestions on how we can fund the BBS in the forthcoming months and probably years?
PS We aren't at a crisis point just yet and have sufficent funds to fund for the next month or two http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif
Any suggestions gratefully recieved http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif
We can do something at the BBS Christmas Dinner maybe ? Raffle or something... footy cup cards etc.

A £5 a year subscription wouldnt hit anyone hard and would cover the costs. How about it? This is the best footie fans site. Less than 2p a day?????
Agree with Al. What about asking the Trust for a grant?

Dave. How can you expect people to stump up a fiver a month for this BBS ?
After all a fiver can buy you a couple of pints AND a bag of crisps.
Or almost buy you a ticket to the cinema.
And you will still get a bit of change ( not a lot mind you ) from a box of 20 cancer sticks.
That was irony by the way for any of you mean *******s out there who aint contributing a fiver a month towards the BBS. Still not convinced its worth it. Well go and see some of the crap sites that other clubs have. Even the most anti-Palace posters on the Away fans forum are in agreement that this is the BEST un-offical football BBS in the country. And I aint seen any offfical ones either that come any where near this one.
Yes I will grant you that the moderators are bunch of ***** http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/wink.gif but so what. Baiting them is half the fun !
So down-load the form and send it off to your bank. NOW.
And dont think that that crap about the data protection act is going to save you cos it wont and there will be a name and shame thread for those tight sods who aint paying up

Dave,
It seemed to me that all the adverts were for American companies...
Was the contract terminated because nobody clicked them?

We do have a lot of very kind subscribers who do contribute by Standing Order - anything from a pound a month, to a tenner. All contributions are welcome, and a standing order is definitely the best method.
All you need to do is to print out the form from here:
http://www.cpfc.org/mandate.html
fill it in, and send it to your Bank (or Building Society). Alternatively, just write to your Bank, and ask them to make a regular transfer from your Account to:
CPFC BBS Services. (Account Number 71805312)
HSBC,
Poultry & Princes Street,
EC2,
Sort Code: 40-05-30.
If that is too difficult, or if you only afford a single contribution, you can pay a cheque in at any branch of any bank, quoting the BBS Account number.
Overseas contributors can pay in any currency - again by sending a cheque, money order or direct credit transfer to the above account.
As a last resort, you can send your cheque to me (payable to 'CPFC BBS Services' and crossed A/C Payee only) here:
James Mitchell
Private and Personal,
Stevens & Bolton,
The Billings,
Guildford,
Surrey, GU1 4YD.
Thanks for your support.

I have a suggestion.
I presume that Crystal Palace allows companies and individual supporters to sponsor players' kits each season (Brentford certainly does). Why not sponsor a player in return for getting their shirt (signed) at the end of the season. Charge a tenner for BBS members who want to enter a raffle to get the shirt. If it costs about £300 to sponsor the kit and you get 300 members to buy a ticket, then you will raise £2,700 this way.
Failing that, although you may not want to accept direct financial support from Palace, why not see if there are things that they could donate to be raffled?

What about a game of naked twister at half time?

Good idea Edmundo with the shirt deal but the naked Twister seems to appeal to me more in a perve sort of why .........
I have been lazy with keeping up with the dosh to the BBS myself .
That will change.
This needs to be sorted and sorted out now by "us" lets not leave it to a few or leave it till its too late.
Even you guys that don't post, yes you ! Your still reading our crap so its your own fault ! http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

I am only very new to the CPFC BBS, but I reckon it is great! For me there would be no probs if a voluntary subsciption fee was created. Being o/s easiest method for me would be credit card payment, could this be done?
You could say somethig like subscritions welcome anything from 1 - 100 pounds, ie put in what you can afford.

Celebrity mud wrestling at half time for an extra amount on the ticket?
Sarah michelle geller vs. Britney Spears, It may csted a bomb but youd get lots of money for it, the Palace pitch is usually a mud bath anyway?

Or how about a sponsored footie match between CF-IFC and a BBS "Celebrity" XI? Each player finds £50 sponsorship or whatever they can. Those media types would have no probs. What do you think? Good idea or what! You could even have a mini tournament between 4 teams. I may be able to rustle up a decent raffle prize. Something like a widescreen telly or a holiday.

Credit card donation is something I've discussing with the company that are interested in providing c/c payment facility to Palace Echo. If our merchant appliaction is accepted, then PE should be in a position to create a donation facility for the BBS via the shop on our site.
It is, of course, up to Dave whether he wants to go this route though.

Credit card would be great way for us lot overseas (Me anyway)to make it simple and I could use the wife's card,Heh,Heh ,Heh.
Also ...James that C.D.of all the old goals you were doing (Or giving away) I would buy one if the dosh went to the BBS ?

It's a nice idea Les, but I deliberately produced the CD's (almost 40 in total) for free. I don't own the copyright in the material, and any form of payment might have put me in a difficult position. In fact, the whole exercise cost me quite a bit of money (in blank CD's and labels, and postage) not to mention hours of my time!
In any event, I have asked those who have taken a CD to consider making a donation to the CP-FRIS sponsored Christmas Party, which (I guess) is as important as the BBS ... for the disabled and underprivileged kids, more so.

Given that I am in a good mood at the moment I will leave it to you other sarcastic ***** to give the obvious answer to this question
http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif
PS, at the Xmas lunch there is probably going to be a 'volunatary' donation of an additional 2 quid for the BBS ( in this case 'Voluntary' means if you dont pay up I will sit on you. And you wont like that http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/wink.gif ). Another idea might be a small auction ( perhaps at the lunch ? ). Nothing serious but I have just bought a copy of the Allan Carr book on how to give up smoking (even though I dont smoke ) which I would donate.
Talk to me.

If all else fails we could always collect all those programs from the Molineux stands and sell them back to the supporters.
Seriously though I see that the Palace players will be paying for the coach travel upto Grimsby. It would be a nice gesture if they could also contribute towards keeping the BBS going for their loyal supporters.

When are the BBS members' t-shirts coming? Surely that's a moneyspinner.
Something that will help is to change your hosting company - £175 seems a bit steep! I have seen dedicated servers available for as low as £25/month and these are hi spec and come with plenty of bandwidth.

Whilst you are probably posting with good intentions you are mistaken:
For the record the BBS current webserver is:
Redhat 6.2 P2 400 256 Meg Ram 9 gig SCSI disk. We use 65 gig of data transfer on a burstable Internet connection on a network with multiple redundant connections to the Internet.
We get a very very good deal at the moment.

I like the idea of a five-a-side football tournament. I'm sure 50, 100, maybe more members would want to play?
Could play in groups then knockout or one big marathon league over the course of a day, 5 minute-a-half matches.

Just a thought but predicting scores, scorers etc for the next game seems a popular thread.
Couldn’t we have an official “BBS lottery” of £x per week stake, with , for example, 50% of prize fund for the first or randomly chosen correctly posted result + (Palace) scorers, and 25% fund for the first or randomly chosen correctly posted result only, with the remaining 25% going to BBS funds. There could be a flat fee, payable in advance to cover all a season’s league/cup games or pro rata for new subscribers. Win a few drinks and help the BBS !

We could have a sponsored 5 a side footrball competition, with a ten pound per person entry fee. Small prize for the winners, and the rest to go to the BBS
Or we could have share option and a board of directors. Right I donate £10 and am therefore in charge, you must now all worship me and start all replies with Dear Gucci I think you're great.
Not sure if this has been suggested. What about a slot for people on the forum to advertise their services (oo er!). They could pay for this service and may get some interest, a bit like a BBS equivalent of yellow pages.
Some people may prefer dealing with others on this forum for business.

Dave, now might be the time to approach the club - Judging by what I heard from Jordan today, he is extremely happy with the supporters and I think if approached properly, he might make a reasonable donation.
What do you think ?

No use ballsing about with a ten squiddly here and there... get a one off bang of a couple of grand and then forget about it for a couple of years... whatever it takes... a top donation that is auctioned from the club or whatever....
By the way... how much did rivals.net pay all the sites that they p***ed all over (for us **************) - did anyone hold out to see what they would stump up?
I have neglected to pay a donation to CPFRIS thus far only cos if I send a cheque in and the cashing in and they mis-time the cashing it will cost me like £25 and then £25... I'm sorry but for half the month my bank account is a no go area. Having said that I love Ray Titsup (Ray - I still have emails from the conception of CPFRIS when the Egoals loonies were getting all hurt on us) and think he does a top thing and one day I'll stick a big wadge of notes in his mitt. Even if the whole thing is a teeny weeny bit too 'nicey nicey' for my preferance hehe.
I want to start a thread about PISA now...

By the sound of it not enough people make a regular donation (Sorry to say I'm one of them). I'd be willing to do a sponsored walk again, but that would only be me, and you're gonna need more than that obviously. How about getting up a sponsored pub crawl or something similar - that would get people taking part that otherwise would'nt, and the more people take part the more money raised.
IMHO approaching Mr. Jordan might be a good idea, remembering his stance on our fantastic support. Or then again, the Trust.
If it came to the auction/raffle shirt thing I might be able to help, but only as a LAST resort. I have a framed shirt signed by Steve Coppell and the squad and presented to me at the last home game of Steve's reign (Blackburn last season). Also in the frame is a signed matchday programme from the same day and signed with a personal message by the same man. I'd need some assurances regarding it's potential i.e. If it doesn't raise enough for a years hosting it's not on, or whatever. (But we can talk about that)
Better still, why not get something going that is open to ALL Palace fans, BBS users or not. Something people would be willing to pay for. I'm a graphic designer and could generate artwork free of charge. Another BBSer might be a printer, for example, who could print the said article free of charge. You never know, yet another BBSer may own a print company/be a paper merchant or supplier that may be wiling to donate stock or something. Maybe then we could generate something worthwhile in everyone's eyes. What exactly I don't know. I'm just putting forward ideas. Whatever happens we MUST KEEP OUR BBS.
If I can do anything to help don't be afraid to ask.
GOOD LUCK IN ALL YOUR ENDEAVOURS DAVE.
