PLEASE READ THIS !

I have just spoken to my brother who's at the game, when he got there before the match Ray Houghton was crossing for Harris to practice side footing into the empty net, apparently one seriously came close to leaving the stadium!!! how worrying is that?

obviously one nil down, apparently the ball came off a burnley player and the ref gave a corner from which they scored, I could hear the chorus of boos !!

Kolinko having a good game, Harris is not.

A 92nd minute Andy Linighan goal cruelly sent Burnley crashing out of the Worthington Cup on the away goals rule, after Andy Cooke had scored.
The Clarets were just thirty seconds away from a place in the third round when the 84th minute substitute Linighan side-footed home into an empty net.
The 38 year-old had been on the pitch just five minutes when he took advantage of a mix-up between Burnley defender Mitchell Thomas and keeper Nik Michopoulos.
It was rough justice on the visitors, who had the better chances in normal time and had taken the lead through Andy Cooke's 45th minute header.
Palace played out extra-time at a canter and go through on away goals, having scored twice in the first leg at Turf Moor.

From Skysports.com

Crystal Palace 1-1 Burnley (Agg 3-3, Palace win on away goals)

Burnley were seconds away from another happy return for former Palace staffer Stan Ternant, now the Turf Moor outfit's boss, following their winn by the only goal of the game here in the league nearly three weeks ago.
But the visitors missed too many good chances to kill off the tie and were stung by a late equaliser by Andy Linighan that took the game into extra-time, and swung the tie back Palace's way.

Hayden Mullins made the chance for former Arsenal defender Linighan to tap in in the last minute to effectively win the tie for palace, despite the Eagles not leading in the second leg at any stage.

Andy Cooke's third goal in four games had earlier given Burnley the lead. Cooke scored on the brink of half-time when a Micky Mellon left-wing corner found the big striker unmarked six yards out and his head did the rest.

Palace were ahead on possession in the first half but Burnley had the best chances. After 14 minutes Glen Little was put through but failed to chip 6'7" goalkeeper Alexandrs Kolinko, who did well to deny Andy Payton eight minutes later.

Palace's best in the first half was a Craig Harrison cross after 25 minutes that found Mikael Forssell's glancing header shoot across the face of the Clarets goal.

In extra-time the former Arsenal duo Tommy Black and Julian Gray came close for Palace, but it was the visitors that needed the goal and Linighan was able to marshall his defence for a much-needed triumph for Alan Smith.

Less than 6000 could be bothered to watch this game despite the tie being in the balance at kick-off, as the format of this much-maligned competition again came into question.

Crystal Palace: Kolinko, Austin, Zhiyi, Ruddock, Harrison, Rodger, Pollock, Mullins, Black, Forssell, Harris.
Subs: Morrison, Gray, Thomson, Linighan, Carlisle.

Burnley: Mihopoulos, Thomas, Armstrong, Davis, Cox, Little, Ball, Cooke, Mellon, Payton, Branch.
Subs: Crichton, Cook, Jepson, Gray, Maylett.

Referee: M Halsey (Welwyn Garden City)

1. Hasn't the draw for the next round already been made?

2. A 90th minute equaliser at home, scored by someone who has not been picked all season, that takes us through on the away goals rule might be the goal that saved the manager's job.

The draw is a new system, something about 'global?' I remember them saying, so you can work out who'll you'll be playing all the way through if you're clever enough

SKATE
27-09-2000, 02:52 AM
A few corrections from the reports, Mullins wsnt even on the pitch when Lineghan scored and even if he was he wouldn't have made a decent pass. Lineghan came on for Harrison, not Foresell. Morrison ws fairly indifferent again.

Yes, that's what I thought. It's like the way they do the Wimbledon tennis draw. We should therefore be playing the winners of one particular round two tie.

There is one more draw made with the balls in the bag and then from then on it will be the Wimbledon format where you have a top half and a bottom half.
So whoever we draw in the next round we will play either the winners of the game drawn above us or below us, if we get through.
