Which prompts two questions:

1. How come Michael Hughes missed a whole season following a dispute between Wimbledon and Birmingham after he got injured whilst on loan?

2. Anyone got a baseball bat?

The argument was over whether the Duns had an agreement to sell Huges to Brum or not. Brum claimed there was no deal but the Duns refused to play Hughes last season because that would have suggested that they agreed that he was still their player

Does indeed - as well as saying that the announcement of the loan deal was premature and that the negotiations went on into the night. Perhaps Palace were just too keen to get it resolved - still seems to be now.

I honestly do wish him well, didn't have the best of times at Palace, but I don't think that was his fault, simply the wrong move. Expensive mistake for SJ, still all over now. (Perhaps we could get whoever sorted this to have a word with Mr Gray:p )

I still think Ade is a good player who will do a job in this division. We just paid too much for him, he got injured and then he didn't fit into the manager's style of play. Good luck to him. He always tried his heart out for us.

I don't think that Leicester were actually closed down and relaunch as Palace were, I think they just acquired new owners. If this is the case we will still owe Leicester. If the "old" Leicester were liquidated then the money we owed them will now be owed to their receivers, who have the job of getting as much money as possible and paying it out at Xp in the pound to the creditors of the old company.

Either way we still owe the money to somebody!!

Doubt we could offload a player on a permanent deal with a clause stopping him playing against us, especially with Stoke knowing we were so desperate to offload him. If either club was in a position to dictate terms then surely it would be them, not us.

Sorry, only just seen this. AA was bad, but I still can't help thinking he will find his form away from Selhurst. I saw him come back from injury against Portsmouth (as usual I was in the wrong end) and he took his goal very well. He also played bloody shite for us. Best thing is to let him go though - especially as he is/was being paid a small fortune.

Indeed, when he came on at Pompey away last season he was quality, the same with Coventry at home.

Sadly Ade could never put together a decent run, and once we got into the vicious circle of him having no confidence and the fans (understandably) having no patience it was never going to work out.

In the end, this is the best move for him, and for us.

Frankly, whenever I saw him playing for us I just felt really sorry for him. He really wanted to do well, but it was terrible watching a player being so frightened of making the smallest mistake.

It's to his great credit that (unless I've missed something) he's never spoken out of turn, even since being completely frozen out by Kember. Can anyone imagine someone like Tommy Black behaving the same way?

Best of luck to him.

Exactly, he behaved impeccably and although did not perform for Palace, you could tell that he was desperate to turn things round. I've got nothing against the guy and I wish him well and hope his confidence returns. The weight of expectation was too great on him at Palace and I expect that maybe not the case at Stoke. He is after all going to a pretty poor side who can't realistically expect to be near the promotion spots

AKINBIYI COMPLETES PERMANENT SWITCH

Ade Akinbiyi has completed a permanent move to Stoke for an undisclosed fee.

The 28-year-old striker has signed a three-year contract with The Potters following his successful loan spell there at the end of last season where he scored two goals in four appearances to help steer the club clear of relegation.

Akinbiyi joined Palace from Leicester for £2.2million in February 2002 but injuries made it difficult for him to show the Selhurst Park crowd his true capabilities.

From today's Guardian reporting on last night's Stoke/Sunderland game :D :D :D

"Ade Akinbiyi had to wait until the last minute to make an appearance from the substitutes' bench, but his mere presence clearly had the desired effect as Stoke brought Sunderland's four-game winning streak to an unceremonious halt.

The new arrival from Crystal Palace had earlier amused himself by taking part in a half-time competition where the aim was to strike the corner flag, a feat which can be said to have earned him quite a comfortable living for the past decade"

NEW Stoke City signing Ade Akinbiyi has revealed that he received interest from Champions League side Stuttgart before deciding on a move to the Britannia Stadium last weekend. The 28-year-old secured a free transfer move to The Potters on Saturday, having spent the latter part of last term on loan with Tony Pulis's side from Crystal Palace.

The former Gillingham, Bristol City, Wolves and Leicester City hit-man explained that he had the option to move to Germany's Bundesliga. "I think people know Walsall made me a bigger offer than Stoke, but there was also interest from Stuttgart, Nurnberg and Gillingham," Akinbiyi told the Stoke Sentinel. "It was a massive thing to think I could be playing in the Champions League, but the main thing for me is being made to feel welcome by a club.

"When I came here on loan last season, everyone made me feel very welcome and I haven't forgotten that. "Without that loan spell, I would probably have ended up somewhere else. "But knowing Tony Pulis wanted me, and remembering how well the crowd here treated me, meant I wanted to come to Stoke.
