Grimsby v Crystal Palace
Mikael Forssell struck four minutes before half-time to give Crystal Palace a rather fortunate lead at Grimsby.
The on-loan Chelsea striker rose in the box to nod home a right-wing cross from Jamie Smith.
Grimsby had dominated most of the half but were denied by wayward finishing and fine goalkeeping from Alex Kolinko.
Midfielder Kevin Donovan was the first to go close when he beat three men in the sixth minute and sent a dipping shot just over the bar.
Then Stuart Campbell played a one-two and burst into the box only to be denied by Kolinko, who raced out of his goal and dived at the midfielder's feet.
Palace were almost gifted a goal when Dutch centre-back Menno Willems got in a mix-up with goalkeeper Danny Coyne - and Forssell nipped in and fired narrowly wide.
Grimsby then came close to taking the lead in the 21st minute. Bradley Allen moved on to a cross from Donovan, turned his man and fired in a fierce, right-foot shot which Kolinko brilliantly tipped over the bar.
Then Donovan scampered into the box between two defenders and saw his low shot smothered by the goalkeeper.
Just before half-time a mistake by Wayne Burnett let in Clinton Morrison, who blasted over the bar with only Coyne to beat.
