Nowadays certain music CDs come with videos on them that you can play on your PC. This is a pain as you have to keeop changing them if you want to watch different ones. Is there a way of putting them onto a dvd or video-cd so that you can choose which one to watch on one disk ?
If so how would you do it ?

Not sure I know what i'm talking about but here goes...

I assume that the music 'video' as you put it in fact a DVD. As long as there is no copy protection, then I guess you could use a DVD-Rewriter to copy it to your hard drive. Probably then could still only copy one of these to a blank DVD though.

So I suppose you would need to convert it to MPEG-4 (which I believe is the DVD version of MP3 for music). So you would create a MPEG-4 for all these music DVD's and then copy them to a single blank DVD. Then you would need a device which plays MPEG-4, which perhaps some DVD players do.

Erm, perhaps an expert could step in at this point and clarify a few things :moo:

Sorry badly explained. What I am talking about are the videos etc that come on 'normal' music cds. For example my boy has a few busted single cds, these come with video that can be seen on a PC as well as the normal audio tracks that are playable on a normal cd player.

I wanted a way where I could 'collate' all these videos onto one disk (dvd or video-cd ?) that would play in a dvd player so he wouldn't have to keep putting each disk into the PC. (And it's better on the telly).

Oh OK. But some music Cd's are now coming with DVD music on them as well. (The Red Hot Chilli Peppers album also has a bonus DVD).

I do remember having an old All Saints CD Single that had a music 'video' on it pre-DVD so know what you mean. Guess you first thing you need to do is view the contents of the CD through Windows Explorer and see what type of file the music piece is. It may require some computer software to run. What happens if you put the CD in your DVD player, does the music video play?

Yup these are not dvds. I've just checked one example, Dido's Life for Rent and they have two Quicktime Movies (.MOV). And no they don't play in the dvd player.

The single of Westside from Athlete also appears to be .MOV

Just did a quick google search and found the following so looks like it's feasible. Looks like they've got some forums as well so should be a few people who can help out.

edit: Just had a quick look and it appears you can do it with Quick Time Pro, which seems to be a free download. So I guess you just need to convert them all to DVD and then copy in bulk to a blank disk.

Thanks #mp3_zone. I really would like to take these from my hdd and get them in a format that I can play on my television dvd player either vcd or dvd. Just not totally sure how to do it (also not sure that the quality would be good enough if I managed to convert them into the relevant format.)

Warning about that. Not all players will play it. Me and my mate, have tried playing the CD in our cars, and they will only play tracks all the way through (without skiping).

I believe data and audio CDs are called "mixed mode". When I had a demo of Nero 6 it gave you the option to make one either:

-One with the data at the beginning and the audio tracks afterwards (e.g. a PC game with the music tracks available on tracks 2, 3, 4, etc., I have a couple like this), or
-One with the audio tracks at the beginning and the data at the end, like you describe, I think this is called a CD Enchanced.

I now have the full version Nero 5.5 which doesn't give you all the definitions, so sorry if I've got them wrong, but anyway you might want to search for "extra cd enchanced" or something. I recommend dvdrhelp.com for help and advice, as well.

I use Nero which will make mpg files into a vcd format which will be ideal if your home dvd player plays them .. A lot of these videos r in Quicktime .mov format which is not compatible tho certain programs will make these into a usable avi format , Winmpg video convert being one i have used with success , These programs all cost money tho
