View Full Version : Who do you want Palace to buy at left Back???
Red n Blue 2

As we well know we need a left back and even though deano CAN play there he is not exactly a natural left back at is needed in other positions. And Jihai may still be coming back even though it is now doubtful due to international call ups at the wrong times for the english calender. And I know we would all love ashley Cole but Arsenal say he is no.2 2 at left back and not for sale but lets hope.
So who wants:-
Jihai?
A.Cole?
Frampton to play there again??? haha
Robbie Elliot (Bolton Transfer listed)
Tarico the unhappy argentine at spurs?
OR SOMEONE ELSE?????????

Regarding Carl Serrant, he did join Sheffield United on-loan but Newcastle cancelled it when Pistone left to join Everton and one of their other defenders got injured.

With us getting Forsell to return plus links with Wrighty as well then we should extend this re-signing policy and get back Kenny Sansom. Surely he can't do a worse job than is currently being done!!!
Is there any chance of pulling another youngster out of a Premiership reserve side? We did it with Ashley - surely there are other youngsters dying to get first team football at Chelsea/Arsenal/Liverpool etc.

Obviously Ashley Cole if at all possible but otherwise I'd like Terry Phelan.....he'd be a free transfer but pretty high wages (no higher that Ruddock though).

How about Paul Powell of Oxford. He's young, classy and very fast, but would probably cost about a million.
If not can Brian Sparrow last a season ? http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Good call Big Fella, Powell would be a very good signing and well in Palace's reach, fee and wages wise. I saw him play a few times last season and thought that he was very classy, but I've since heard reports that a few Premiership sides were after him.

If he's that useful dont expect Coppell to realise his talents.

Err, so your saying Coppell is a bad judge of players ?
Do you have a hard time remembering where you live and what your name is ?
Brett
31-07-2000, 10:38 PM
He's not exactly setting the world alight management wise. Lets see, hhmm Fullarton looks a good left back, oh yeah Linighan rock of the central defence, yep i'll get Austin to bomb forward some of his precision passes.
And I dont need to ask Leon to stick the ball in the net. It was so much easier when I had Sinnott, Gabbiadini et al.

Oh behave yourself !!!
Coppell saved the club last season.
No Coppell. No club. Comprende'
THE PLAYERS f*ck up a couple of freindlies and your slating the guys proven skills.
If you don't rate him that's fair enough, that's your opinion. But at least give him a couple of months of the season before you start sniping.
Brett

You come off it. Behave.
We were not that bad last season. It wasnt the miracle it should have been. Crying out loud, Port Vale, Swindon, Walsall, Grimsby, there is 4 teams worse than us. We had a decent squad in the main in terms of first division standards.
The decline has been rapid since the end of last season. We got two wins cos we were playing temas with no interest. Remember the first half against Blackburn? We were gonna get killed.
It is not due to Coppell's brilliance we stayed up, it was due to the players playing somewhere near their potential.
Coppell did well. But come on, he is no miracle worker.
The stories I have heard from the training ground are of a guy who has lost TOTAL respect of the squad.
Enough said.

So who else would have done what he did. Steve Kember ??? John Cartwright ??? Sideburns ???
It was Coppell's loyalty and determination that translated to the players, and they responded similarly.
Alex Fergusson, Dick Advocaat and Ruud Gullit could probably all do a better job, but somehow I can't see them bothering.
The way some people are slating Coppell at this time really winds me up. After everything he's done for the club I don't think he deserves this at this stage.
Brett
31-07-2000, 11:08 PM
Yeah and a lack of effort from the players really winds me up.
And that comes from where???
Bajsmannen
31-07-2000, 11:11 PM
The best swedish left back is Mikael Sandklef from IFK Gothenburg. He would be a great signing. He was bought last season from Västra Frölunda with another great player, Thomas Rosenkvist, for £750 000.
**Bajsmannen the man who suggest swedish players**

The season hasn't even started yet.
There are valid critisisms being made, and hopefully addressed, that's the whole point of having pre-season games.
Just do us a favour, and give Coppell, and the team, a chance to get it going.

out of posistion there? Not much changes....

I WONT give him a season - I dont like being laughed at bcos of poxy results, I am losing patience. I will give Coppell the month of August.

I have the hump - its as simple as that.
Someone is to blame for the player abysmal attitude and lack of fitness, both physical and mental.

Stuart Pearce, possibly coaching as well? Would be good as a stop-gap!

Whoa, Ruddock, Fan and Psycho Pearce at the back? I think the pitch would look a lot greener from the amount of times that opposition forwards sh*t themselves...

Just to get this thread back to its original topic........notice Animal Brevitt was back playing left back for Foolham against Spurs last night. I know the arguments about the average age of our back 3/4/5, but surely Terry Phelan would do a good job for us short term until the Arse forget that King Cole exists.
rashid

Dobbo. good call. Phelan was allegedly happy to stay with Palace, but we fell foul of the loan regulations and the inability of the club in administration to fork out for a permanent move. He presumably knows Smith and vice versa. Being in London would not seem to be a problem. The last minute run and cross he laid on for Matt Svensson up at Port Vale was top scram. In the absence of Ashley Cole who must be numero uno on our wishlist Phelan looks the best option.

The thought of having him at left-back for us now would be considered a joke but when he was on loan i bet we really thought we had a chance of getting him. Just wondering as i never saw him play for us was he really that special even then? Would be interesting to know...

He was the absolute nuts. It was pretty clear just how good he would become even then, in fact so much so that despite the fact we were totally skint, we managed to offer £1m for him.
Unfortunately Mr Wenger is no mug and refused the offer.

Dean Gordon, I don't care how old he is. I just want to see one of his rockets and his hoofs that always went off for throws.

I remember going up to Grimsby for the game where Cole and Forsell made their debuts in a 1-0 defeat. Despite the fact that we lost I had a feeling that we'd be ok with those two in the side.

I seem to remember that we offered even more than that - something like £2m. Jordan had just taken over so in actual fact we had quite a bit of money then.
